from NPR: "Panama City's airport authority hopes to have its financing in place and details worked out so it can begin construction of the new airport by the middle of December."
I'm confused. Didn't they have a ground breaking ceremony last month?
and why wouldn't they have already had financing and details lined up?

Yes, Mango, but 8 shovels are cheap.

But the snacks to feed Shelly were not.

Just surprised that they still haven't ironed out the financing. Most Banks are usually crawling all over commercial loans, unless they are being stringent with lending in that area as well.

JOE probably paid for the snacks.

With a project like that, there are probably multiple, multiple funding sources, many of them grants only allowed to cover specific parts of construction.

They have alot of land clearing and general site prep before they can start digging footers.

The "ground breaking" was merely windowdressing so JOE had something to mention during its conference call besides its plunging losses and flurry of pinkslips for its employees.

I'm sure they'll be finding credit a bit tight too....maybe floating some bonds--good luck with that!

Nope, but I saw a HUGE pile of dirt being dumped onto the property on the SE side of 79/20. My guess is that they are staging for more road construction. :idontno:

Well you have one hot bath attendant.;-) I was up on 79 Saturday walking around on my property and the state has cleared the road for 4 lanes from the bridge to 20. I about fell out of my shoes. It was not like that just a month ago.

I did travel down Hwy 77 last week, from hwy 20 to Panty Maw Sitty, and I was as surprised. That is one nice road.

It looks like the new section of 331 (Freeport Bypass) should open any day now.

Lord, I hope not. I don't need the competition(real estate, not pimpin') in my own house.

I think she is with Re/Mix. I saw her on a swingers web site by accident. You better float her on over to me to be on the safe side and just turn up the hot water! :funn:

That's a lot of work, isn't it?

It seems wasteful that they just piled all the trees up and burned them. You'd have thought they could find someone to pay for the right to haul them off and saw them up, chip them, or something.

Does anyone else find it distressingly typical that we get a new 4-lane 79 to an airport that isn't even built yet, while we're still just studying 4-laning 331 so that all us individual taxpayers can evacuate SoWal if there's a storm?

There is going to be a new route off of 98 on the east end of Rosemary to 79.

Treefrog, they hauled away the big trees and burned the stumps and limbs.

No I dont feel distressed that they are 4 laning 79 to an airport that doesnt exist, this is called wise planning and will be a huge economic stimulus to the
airport that does exist in a short 2 years.

FYI, "all" taxpayers dont live in SoWal, some taxpayers live in other counties, such as bay for example and washington county and of course there are other counties in florida.

their loss was the equivalent of 4 or 5 homes in Watercolor..I think the 800k acre in Florida baby is being thrown under the bus, right Shelly? Or can we make fun of the new airport. How about we also picket any new wastewater treatment plants or new schools.

.....it didn't stop their stock price from reverting back to 2003.

How about a "rumored" Nukalur Plant?

No need to wait....just tell the foreigners who are doing the construction work.
