Red Bar: The Local Gold Standard

We go to The Red Bar all the time. And we would probably go even more often were it not for the fact that we really like to try new places and support more of our local establishments...

For me, The Red Bar has become the local gold standard. I say this because every time I leave The Red Bar I cannot help but think (and typically say to whom I am with at the time)-

"The Red Bar is one of the greatest restaurants I have ever been to."

Now don't get me wrong- the best steak I ever had wasn't at The Red Bar. Nor was the best Chinese or Mexican food I ever had at The Red Bar. The best service I've ever had wasn't at The Red Bar. The best wine I have ever drank wasn't either. I have been to much nicer places- ETC, ETC, ETC.

But what makes The Red Bar one of the greatest restaurants I have ever been to is the fact that everything about eating there (the food and beyond) is consistently very very good and I can think of no other place that I can take for granted for delivering such a satisfying dining experience over and over again...

We love you Oli and Crew!

Amen! My family feels like we were invited to a party when we go there. It is so laid back, so welcoming, and lets face it, the atmosphere is like being at your crazy Aunts house, you never know who is going to be in there, but you are guranteed to have a good time. And the music just makes you happy!

I couldn't agree more. The Red Bar is such a great place. I love taking out-of-town family and friends there on their first day here. It always starts their vacation/trip on the right foot.

We just moved to Santa Rosa Beach and discovered Red Bar recently. It's been our favorite find so far. It feels homey and fun at once.

Hands down in my top 5 of best restaurants in the World!

I still to this day remember my first time in the Red Bar (and that's saying a lot based on the alcohol I consumed).
I still to this day remember everytime I've been in the Red Bar.
I still to this day stare in amazement and slack jawed when people make the comment, "I've never heard of it".

Oli and crew you guys rock!

It's always been one of our favorites. I, like most of you, always take first timers there. When they first walk in they have this look on their face , but by the time we leave they love it!

Thanks Oli and family for making such a funn and special place for all of us. SoWal would not be the same without it.

I agree.!

We love it for breakfast and lunch. Love people-watching there. Love the funky NOLA sort of atmosphere. We never miss going there at least once for a weekend trip. Two weekends ago we went twice!

What happened to the old one? It had so much charm.

I wonder how many drinks had soaked it over the years.:floor:

I think the years of spilled drinks had it glued to the floor. The new one seems to be slipping. I had planned to anchor it under the sofa, yesterday after the show, but I totally forgot.

My brother and his girlfriend told me later that they couldn't figure out why I took then to the Red Bar with its broken and duck taped furniture, goofy decor, and limited menu on the chalkboards.

After the food arrived, their question had been answered.

Can't wait to order breakfast!

Can you believe I once heard a patron ask her server to turn down the music???????

When we go there, we aim for the patio, weather-permitting, or a booth by the bar because we find it to be painfully loud in the main dining area when a band is playing.

I think the reason the Red Bar is such a great place is how Oli treats his staff and customers. Look around. Some of the people working there have been employed 10 plus years! Around these parts that is unheard of. Plus from day one Oli has gone out of his way to make everyone feel special. He is a class act! His family is amazing and he surrounds himself with great people. The end result is a place that is more then just a restaurant! It is a part of 30A that one has to visit even if they have no interest in dining. The Red Bar is our very own local "Rock Star"!

Wait a minute. Replacing them every so often is needed. Removing them, however, would be wrong. I was very happy when Oli replaced the last couch. Now, there is no duck tape to get stuck in my hair.

For me, the Red Bar is home. I don't go for the beer, the food, or the service -- all of which can be found at most restaurants. The Red Bar just feels comfortable, whether I am wearing a wet swim suit with sandy feet and flip flops, or dressed up (:floor:). The staff, even after dealing with crazy customers all day, still takes care of you. The live music is a huge draw, and the sofas add that home-feeling. We went Friday night just to listen to the jazz band, which is fabulous. They had everyone tap their feet. Sunday's, after church, are also great with Dread Clampitt playing. On the busy nights, you can see Oli running around, making sure that everyone is happy, and often, when Oli isn't on the floor, it is always great to see Louis greeting everyone. Both are such welcoming people.

Red Bar may not be the best place around here, but it is one of my favorites, and once you've been, you will remember it forever.
