I just bought some great food that I can't eat

So I am out with a relative today and we go over to his house and he is showing me his cows and horses and goats. So I tell my relative that I am thinking about buying some goats and have them butchered, and he looks at me and says, "hey I got four goats for sell and I'll give you a great deal on them.

So I get to thinking, which by now anyone on this board knows is dangerous and I ask, "how much for the goats?" and he says, "give me a hundred bucks." I say you got it, and pull out my wallet and give him a hundred bucks. So by now I am starting to think about how great these goats are going to taste and I get out of my vehicle and go over and ask can I look at them and he says sure.

So I go into the field and walk over to the goats and they come over and start nuzzling on me and his daughter comes out and says to me, " they're my pet." I thinking oh crap I can't eat lassie with horns so I look at my relative and ask what does it cost to feed these things and he says 7 dollars a week.

I pull out my wallet again and hand him another hundred bucks and say to him call me when that runs out. I am now the proud owner of 4 pet goats that I will never eat.

Sheriff Johnson had some goat which the Sheriff's Office was trying to sell for $180 for 3 or 4 goats. So much for your idea about farming.

They make good lawnmowers, too. Everybody needs a goat or two.

Goat feasts happen all the time around here among certain ethnic groups. Used to cause uproars, but I think everyone has gotten over it.

They sound disturblngly human when they get to crying after they are pinned and when they are hung up before the slaughter. Goat is big food.

OL,maybe so but the goats did get on my nerves for sure. They are walking lawn mowers/ He strted with 3 and not a year later we had over 50! They reproduce like rabbits
Hispanics are big on eating goats. I've had it once when I was small and then a friend who sold my ex the goats was always cooking goats so I had it at her house during Katrina ( cooked on open fire) nobody had any power.

I know, I know, I deserve that. I was thinking about taking them to a petting zoo and giving them away but now I can boast that I am the proud owner of four pet goats.

:lolabove:This is the funniest story I've heard in a long time....is this really true? And, if so, I wonder how many times he's sold those goats and then the daughter comes out and gives her one liner, "they're my pet."

Your timing is perfect! There's a terrific thread on another board right now dealing with someone else who decided to buy some local goats - it will answer many of the questions posters have asked here, and it's a pretty cool story, too.

Ooooh boy.... I am the original carnivore, but I admit I've never really thought much about where the meat comes from.

And somehow goats are different for me than rabbits or fish or deer or chickens. Or even lambs or cows... it's wierd but I guess I've just never thought about goats that way. I've got some thinkin' to do...
