When we come down to visit, we usually stay in one night and cook dinner. In your opinion, what's the best market along 30a to buy fresh seafood? Thanks.

run a search for "seafood market" and you should find a recent thread with many opinions. There is even a poll for people to vote their choice.

Definitely! Their crab cakes are so good that I buy the frozen ones and bootleg them to my relatives!

Travel tip, a small duffel bag w/ frozen crab cakes packed in ice will make the airline weight allowance and arrive at the destination still frozen after 12 hours - but the duffel will get a bit soggy.

Goatfeathers in Seagrove is great, too. We've bought there many times and NEVER gotten anything that wasn't fresh and good.

I buy seafood at Goatfeathers in Seagrove at least 25 times a year, so obviously we like it. Knock on wood, but we have never gotten sick from it which is not the case for another seafood market that we've been to about 5 times total.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I guess I was too lazy to do a search. :) Happy Easter.

BR, food poisoning is more likely to occur from improperly cooked or improperly handled food, unless we are talking about eating raw shellfish.

Would be a bit against the Old Testament, would it not? Of course so is the ham, I guess.

This was shrimp. I am very OCD about the way I handle food (that's why I have one sink for prepping everything but meat/seafood, another for prepping meat/seafood, and another for dirty dishes), so it wasn't due to any mishandling on my part. People tease me all the time about being so OCD about food prep.

I'm Methodist, and Jesus picked fishermen to be his disciples.

If you cooked it the proper length of time, and held it at the proper temp up until the time you ate it, as well as handled it properly, you would have killed all the cooties and not have been sick. Holding temp is critical. I've had food poisoning from eating shellfish more times than I care to mention, each from eating it at temps which are inviting to the cooties.

"Fishermen," not oystermen, lobstermen, nor shimpers.

I think I did, but I don't have any scientific evidence to prove that to be true.:idontno: Thanks for the advice.

Don't go on Friday's to shrimpers. Gordo eats it all, even uses the ice they chill the seafood in to cool his pitcher of mad dog 20/20 :rolling::rolling::rolling:
