I'm just going to throw this out to the universe, because no one except for my husband knows or cares and I just want to tell someone...

I JUST MADE AN AGREEMENT TO BUY A NEW MOUNTAIN BIKE!!!!!!

It's a Kona Blast, 03 model but only ridden three times. Got it for a song too! I pick it up from B'ham on Wednesday. I'm so excited I'm  !! My old bike is a crappy, $50 walmart version and I've always hated it.

Grayton Beach bike trails, here I come!!!! :leaving:

Where in Bham did you get it? Are you taking it out to Oak Mtn as soon as you pick it up? There are great trails in Trussville where you can work on your skills! I wanna go. down here there is nothing but sand, the only hills I have found are the bridges on the trails. :(

I have been trying to decide what kind of bike to get . I would not be riding long distances, but would be riding up and down 30A a lot. I did not know there was a lot of bike trails in Grayton . I had been concidering a "touring" model, which has narrow tires. I guess for trails I would need a wider tire. For general use as I have described ,should I be looking at a "beach cruiser" type bike ? Thanks

For up and down 30A a cruiser is the way to go. If you want to get off road some but primarily be on the road, look in to a "hybrid" These are comfortable on the road but will also handle the trail pretty well.

Neither my mountain bike nor my road bike are good for pedaling slowly around 30A, they are built for speed. I need a third one that is designed for cruising with a fruity beverage in a strategically placed drink holder:clap:.

THAT sounds like a plan!!!!!

I actually bought the Kona from a man in Tuscaloosa and he met me north of B'ham so I could get it from him. I have some friends in Trussville, and his wife is looking for a bike right now so we can all four have a go at some trails. Nothing TOO scary for me, since I'm a beginner.

I GOT MY BIKE TODAY!! Took it right up to Monte Sano Mt. to try it out on the family trail up there and it is SOOOOO wonderful!!!!!!

The bike trail at Grayton is flat, flat, flat. But it's a fun and easy ride. Which is fine for me and my girls.

I highly recommend a bike w/ bigger tires. Even if you are just riding on the "path" there is still a lot of sand, gravel, uneven asphalt etc. to contend with.

Even though my bike already had wide tires and had traveled many places on unpaved road & paths, Big Daddy's had me put bigger ones on.

Okay, so I went a little nuts yesterday on the new bike. Also forgot my 'squishy seat', that gel-filled seat cover that's so kind to bums.

As a result, ah, well, let's just say that I need to work on my 'bike :moon:' .

OUCH!!!!!!
