Hello!

Is it possible to swim across Choctawhatchee Bay? I know it is 27 miles across, but wondering if, logistically, it is possible. All the best!

I wouldn't do it without at least a follow boat, but it is technically possible for a marathon swimmer.

Thanks! That's why I ask. I am a marathon swimmer and absolutely would never do a long-distance swim without a pilot. Do you happen to know what the currents are like? Speed, direction, etc. Might be fun to try this summer.

Sorry, that would be good question for someone else. However, I do know it's constantly changing since you have a tide and at least one major river emptying into the bay as well.

Hello,

If someone were thinking about swimming across (lengthwise) the Choctawhatchee bay, who would it be best to contact about currents, wind, flow, etc. in order to plot an appropriate course? Would the endeavor even be possible? Thanks and all the best!

Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance may have some info. Floida Wildlife Commission Officers and bay fishing guides can give you firsthand experience. Maybe swim parallel to the intracoastal channel but might get some wakes.

Boy. Can't even avoid nonsensical political idiocy on a completely non-political forum. So exhausting. Go make a sign and parade around the neighborhood with it rather than ruining an honest thread with an honest question. I'm sure you have some pink hats to knit or something. Guess I'll stay out of the Destin area if you're the poster child for who I would be meeting. ONE post. ONE question and this is what jumps in. Great.

Lighten up. It was just a silly joke.

And it's not helpful, or funny at all. The person who made the comment needs to lighten up and not infuse their political hate into EVERY frigging conversation in the world. It's annoying and exhausting. It would be nice to be able to have ONE conversation without this idiocy being injected into it. I'm asking for some simple and serious advice about a possible serious endeavor (for a charity mind you) and STIll, these trolls have to jump in with their nonsense. I'm just SO sick of it, so pardon my irritation. I'm not the one who jumped in, like a child, to someone else's adult conversation.

Thank you! I'm sorry for getting upset, but it's just so annoying. And I did go to the lounge and saw that this individual is a serial troll, so I'll just consider the source. All the best.

Try un-bunching your panties a bit. It wasn’t meant as political, but as current event humor since everyday there is a new comical claim or some weird event from his past revealed.
You really need to lighten up and cease being triggered by your political lens.

Find another bridge, troll. No goats here. Only adult goings on.

Thanks! When we do the swim around Key West, it's done specifically when the sharks are migrating. That's definitely something I will need to look into. Certainly don't want to be out there during feeding time. LOL. That one is only 12 1/2 miles though. This will be significantly tougher if I decide to do it.

I'm sure there's some thread about baking or child care that you can go ruin. Have fun!

The bay is kind of cold, you'll need a thick skin.

Thanks for the heads up. I am not allowed to use a wetsuit when I swim. My thought is July. I'm looking at the water temp today online and it says that the water temperature is 67 degrees. I've done 9 consecutive miles in 61-degree water (lake swim) with no wetsuit, but I did get a little foggy about halfway across but worked through it. Do you know if the water temp in the Bay is pretty consistent year-round? Any info is greatly appreciated. All the best.

I think it does stay pretty consistent based on it's size. Theo not sources of water are the river and the Gulf. It won't suddenly change is what I'm getting at.

The bay gets quite warm in the summer. July is a warm bath.
