Bruno's grocery is going out of business

The store across from the outlet malls is shutting down. Everything was on sale for 10-50% off. They'll be shuting down around June 1st. The shelves are still filled with food and supplies, but there was a big crowd as well. A good chance to stock up on non-perishables.

[edit - title change - BB pointed out there are a lot of Bruno's south of 30-A!]

You mean Bruno's Pizza in Destin? Hopefully not Bruno's in Seagrove.

We like the Bruno's buffet in Seagrove. We also like to order pizza from there. Depends on our mood. I mean, sometimes I like a McDouble, and sometimes I like a cheeseburger at Houston's in Buckhead.

Love Bruno's Mexican pizza. Also the meatlovers.

Nope, the Bruno's grocery store, opposite Win Dixie, next to Busters. The old Delchamps I think, or maybe I have those reversed.

You really should have said "Bruno's in Destin" so as not to cast a pall over the one in Seagrove.

EDIT: In your defense 30ashopper, I see that you were referring to a grocery store, not a pizza place. But I for one am not familiar with Bruno's as a grocery store in the Panhandle. When I am in the Panhandle mindset, Bruno's to me means Bruno's pizza in Seagrove. And that's the context in which most of us would exist, due to the fact that this is sowal.com.

He did say "across from the outlet malls"...:idontno:

That pretty much eliminated any confusion for me...

That's true. But most people don't have time to read the posts in every thread. I haven't lately. We see the gist of the thread by the title and move on.

Fixed!

Actually it's not. Tried to though, editing the title didn't change the main thread title.

Technically, I believe you're right. I'm sure DuneLaker could tell us for sure. Isn't the Okaloosa county line a bit further down 98?

Moot point.

Technically it in in Walton County, but that area is called Destin. Silver Sands Outlet Destin Florida - Silver Sands Outlet Stores in Sandestin

Whatever.

My main point was that I didn't want Bruno's Pizza to be harmed by an ambiguous thread title. This has been fixed now.

People may call it that, but it's not in Destin, creating confusion.

Hence Dunelaker's constant attempts to get people/media to be more accurate.

Here's the link to the B'ham Biz Journal that has the info.

Someone on the fourm that is from B'ham can tell the story better than me about how the Bruno family built a family grocery store into a multi-million dollar business with hundreds of stores(Bruno's, Food World, Albertson's, Vincent's Markets) only to watch it be run into the ground by large holding companies after it was sold years ago. I don't think words Customer Service was in their playbook.

I'll never forget the CEO of the first holding company from NY it was sold to saying " We're going to show these folks in the South how to sell grocerys". I guess he was right --- He's really going to run some good sales the next few weeks.

This is sad. The downhill trend seemed to begin with the tragic plane crash where several family members died. :(

My son worked for this company when he was in high school in the late 90s. They always treated him well.

The area is called Miramar Beach in South Walton County and who would confuse the two?
One problem is the &^%* zip codes. I worked the census ten years ago in Sandestin and that area has a Destin zip code. A good percentage of the people living there had no idea what county they actually lived in, until some proposed development they objected to came along, and then they had to ask directions to the BCC meetings. I guess they never paid much attention to their property tax bills, seemed quite strange to me. :idontno:
Same thing on the east end of 30A - they have a Panama City Beach zip code, but I do think the people living there are a bit better informed as to where they live.

Walton County 13 zip codes and 3 post offices. The problem is up and down the county. Bunker is served by Vernon in Washington County, what sense does that make.

Zip Codes in Walton County

This is a map showing the approximate location of zip codes in Walton County
http://www.co.walton.fl.us/DocumentView.asp?DID=683
It is an approximation because zip codes are based on delivery routes which are based on street location and proximaty to a post office that delevers mail not a post office that just has drop boxes. These boundaries are set by the post office and can change.

I am so glad we are beginning to get the message out. The zip code for the city of Destin in Okaloosa County is different than the area in Walton County, which is NOT Destin. It is not known as Destin. Many people know better. This really wasn't a point of confusion until the last several years. Hopefully, it will be cleared up soon so that we don't need to keep correcting. Miramar Beach and the Sandestin area in Walton County has its own zip code. No need to ever use the Destin name again for anything in Walton County. This recent blurp can just die a natural death. Sorry about Brunos Grocery in Sandestin, Miramar Beach area closing. My grandmother used to date one of the Delchamp boys. BTW Thanks for your useful post on zip code map. Very clear that Miramar Beach and Sandestin have different zip code than Destin, Okaloosa County, which has completely different zip code. We really must do something about the Ponce de Leon and Panama City Beach Zip Code names for other parts of our county. Will wait for another time and another thread.

We need to work to get these silly map companies to put zip codes on them. I am tired of the strange looks I get when I go into a store asking if someone can tell me how to get to 32578. I use to look for cities, but after reading this thread, I have come to realize, it is the zip code I should be using as a destination. Or make that 32541ation. Maybe we can get Embarq on board for this. City names are out, we only need to use zip codes from now on to know where we are.

I guess you are joking, WRobert? The point is about correct place names. It is great that Miramar Beach can be identified by its place name in Walton County. Having a different zip code than a city in the next county over helps it retain its identity. It certainly will be helpful if someone wants directions! Directions to Sandestin in Miramar Beach are quite different than directions to Destin in Okaloosa County. Travel time and money can be saved. Last post on this here. Really need to start a Census location thread. Guess we've got it clear that Bruno's Grocery that is closing is in Miramar Beach, Walton County, it is not in Destin, and should not be confused with the Bruno's Pizza in Seagrove Beach.

Zip Codes

That's the problem. Zip Code areas are made by the post office to show which post office delivers mail to what area. Trying to use postal designations to describe areas of the county does not work. Locals know where inlet beach is not where Panama City Beach zip code area is in Walton County. As for changing zip codes so that they better reflect the county be careful what you wish for. The people living in these areas would have to change all of thier mailing information including Drivers License, Magazine Subscriptions and all of the letterhead for businesses. These people would be rightly upset at all of the time and money it would cost to change these addresses. These problems will continue until South Walton actualy incorporates into a city or cities that way you could give an accurate boandary for a geographic area as is you just have a vague idea of where blue mountain beach or grayton is.
