There's some embellishments in there.

Apparently anything prior to 2000 is historic, even if it is an old Jim Walters home.

This is my Uncle Charles’ and Aunt Peggy’s beach cottage. My mom dad, sister and I stayed in this home with our other family for 10 years until my parents built their cottage two doors east. Y’all may remember an A-frame two story cottage on stilts painted a kind of navy color with white trim. That’s us! Was us, lol. They demolished our perfectly good home that was intact and built a McMansion.
My Uncle Charles’ home was gutted and had no historical or architectural significance. Don’t get me wrong. I loved that place so much. Our families and neighbors made good memories there!
The reporting on this was pitiful. It was bought over 50 years ago and was far from being one of the first homes on 30-A. I will have to check, but I believe their corner lot went for $3k and our lot was $6k (because my parents bought closer to 1980.
The gentleman in the report didn’t even know how to say the name of our hometown of Marianna, FL which is 1.5 hours away. I would like to see the report retracted for all of the made up facts. It doesn’t really even need to be a story. It could be a good human interest story if they had interviewed some of the first residents of Seahighland SD abutting Seagrove Beach. We had a lot of fun!

Not embellishments, but made up facts. They are so mixed up. Btw, I don’t recall any of my family saying the cottage was a Jim Walter’s home including the next door neighbors who currently still have the exact same home. They are our family friends. Things are just a little different inside. Btw, the cottage that was or will be moved belonged to my aunt and uncle. My uncle passed away but my aunt is our neighbor. She will laugh at the report!

The give away are the concrete block pilings. Jim Walters homes was out of Tampa and unlike DR Horton they built on your land and had regional offices. Those pilings were the signature look on their "coastal models" and we're just a requirement as the height met statewide flooding minimums. If that lot floods most of sowal would be under water. There's another one over in old Seacrest. Their "showroom" was on 15th Street in Panama City just down from the Fluent dispensary.

Hello Matt,
I understand what you are saying about the concrete block pilings. That’s insane about the height requirements. It makes me want to laugh. The bluff is our “pilings”. You’re right, if we had flooding over a 30 ft. bluff probably all of South Walton and far inland would be flooded. I asked my mom if uncle’s and aunt’s house was a Jim Walter’s home and she said she had never heard that before. My dad and my uncle have both passed away. The other person I can ask is our neighbor here and in Seagrove for 40 years. He and my Uncle Charles built the same cottage. Our family friend and my uncle’s best friend. It’s not that I don’t believe you, I’m just curious now. My parents had a company that built our cottage to a certain point and my parents were responsible for the rest. I have counted about 10 A-Frame houses in the area that are just like ours, but with some original differences. The name of the business was maybe Panhandle (something). I know it wasn’t Jim Walter’s. I was about 9 so you’ll have to cut me some slack. I didn’t get a notification that you had replied. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Thank you, Paul

Paul, Jim Walters Homes would do partial construction as well so the homeowner could finish it on their own. They did use subcontractors. They also offered a discount program where you and a neighbor could get a discount if you built at the same time.

Regarding the piers, back when your house was built Florida had a statewide coastal flooding standard. It had nothing to do with height and was based on the distance from shore. It's why many of the older condos/townhomes are up a level even in Blue Mountain Beach.

I thought I might be incorrect until you mentioned the A-frames and unfinished construction.

Here's some more info:
