South Walton Fire District:

DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS MONTH!

This is not an April Fools' joke. Using a cell phone while driving creates enormous potential for deaths and injuries on U.S. roads. In 2020, 3,142 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Help us keep SoWal roads safe! We all have a part to play in saving lives by ending distracted driving.

Protect yourself and others by never texting and driving
Make phone calls "hands-free" and limit the number of calls you make whenever possible
Encourage your family and friends to eliminate behind-the-wheel distractions

90% or better of 98 traffic is texting or on their phones. Maybe if this illegal act was actually deterred by writing tickets?

Or texting while riding a bike along 30A. That is real talent.

Those usually end in hysterical wipeouts though.
