Free Coronavirus Testing for Walton County Residents

Until recently Walton County’s coronavirus testing has lagged far behind neighboring counties and the state. When the virus was first discovered taking hold in cities across the country, residents were overwhelming officials with requests for tests that just weren’t available. Lots of people were sick and wondered if they might have gotten the virus. Others were just wondering if they had been exposed.

“We had to turn a lot of people down,” said Holly Holt, administrator of the Walton County Health Department.

Wildfire in South Walton Info & Updates - Arrest Made

Walton County Sheriff's Office is on scene of an outside woods fire with South Walton Fire and Florida Forestry. WCSO is currently in the process of evacuating houses and businesses along US Highway 98 and 30a W. Loral Lane and E Pinehurst Drive have been evacuated. Musset Bayou Road is closed at this time. WCSO has shut down portions of Highway 98 and 30A west of County Road 393.

Man Eating Shark Spotted in South Walton! [With Photo]

Warning! The photo may be too graphic for some viewers. Today in Grayton Beach around noon we captured this horrific image of a man eating shark. The attack was gruesome and proved to be fatal for the shark. The type of shark is unknown. 

The shark was grilled and served on a Kaiser Roll. French Fries was the side dish. The staff at SoWal.com hope you are having a great April Fool's Day!

250 Room Sandestin Hotel Set to Open in 2020

Sandestin Investments, LLC (SDI) has received a development order from the Walton County Board of County Commissioners to proceed with the building of a new 250-room full-service hotel and conference center. The Sandestin Hotel and Conference Center will be located adjacent to the Baytowne Conference Center at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. This four-star hotel is the first new development within Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in over 4 years. Construction will commence in August 2018 with completion projected for April 2020.
