St. Joe Foundation Provides Grant for Robotics Academy at Emerald Coast Middle School

The St. Joe Community Foundation (Foundation) has provided a $8,742.00 grant to Emerald Coast Middle School in Walton County to sponsor its first year in providing a new Robotics Academy to its students in the 2014 – 2015 school year. Research suggests that Robotics is very effective in improving Math, Science, Technology, and Reading skills.

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort recently appointed Eric Chopin to the position of Executive Chef. Chopin is a professional chef with more than 30 years of experience. Born in Guerande, Brittany, France, Chopin has been seasoning his way through the cooking world in Europe and America since the early age of 14. He began cooking in Paris as a charcutier and is classically trained in the art of making delicious, unique pastries and savory masterpieces, while always respecting their natural flavors and textures.

Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast Ranked Best in Florida for Patient Engagement

Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast has been recognized for its patient engagement efforts in the first National Patient Engagement Ranking. Patient engagement is the process by which patients take charge of their own health. Ranked 23rd out of 3,077 hospitals nationwide, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast secured the highest ranking in the state of Florida.

2014 Destin Charity Wine Auction Raises $2 Million for Local Children's Charities

Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation’s (DCWAF) 9th Annual Destin Charity Wine Auction raised a record breaking $2,035,000 for children in need in Northwest Florida. This marks a 57 percent increase from last year’s results of $1.3 million, reaffirming the foundation’s namesake event as the top charity fundraising event in Northwest Florida, and a “Top 10 Charity Wine Auction in the U.S.” recognized by Wine Spectator Magazine.

Laurie Hood of Alaqua Animal Refuge Receives Daily Point of Light Award from George H. W. Bush

Laurie Hood received the Daily Point of Light Award from President George H. W. Bush for going above and beyond to rescue abused, neglected, and homeless animals through her non-profit shelter, Alaqua Animal Refuge.

Laurie feels honored to be chosen as a Daily Point of Light recipient. Since 2007, she has worked to create a safe haven for animals in need, and has saved almost 10,000 animals in the process. 

Walton County Habitat ReStore Devastated by Flooding

The Habitat for Humanity of Walton County ReStore was submerged in over two feet of standing water after severe weather impacted the area on April 29. The store was set to open for the first time next week in their new location off Hwy 393 South before record flooding impacted the area. All inventory is a total loss along with significant damage to the building. Unfortunately, the ReStore's insurance will not cover the flood damage sustained to the contents or building. Immediate resources and assistance are needed.
