Just like throwing a light switch it turned summer here at the beach 3 days ago. Calm clear water, big schools of bait on the bar at daylight and high temps in the mid 80's. The forecast calls for it to stay like this for a while. Be great if it would stay for a few months !
I have been able to run the past 5 days in varying conditions, from downright perfect to sloppy. Today passed the "sloppy" mark and made it to rough so I have an unexpected day off.
The big news item and the topic of everyone's conversation is , of course, the oil spill in the Gulf from the BP rig that sank. My phone is steady ringing with folks from points North wanting to know what's happening here at the beach. The bottom line is: Nothing, so far---
Somebody needs to get up with the Chamber of Commerce and see if we can get a patent on the last 10 days. If not I sure hope we at least get summer re-runs ! The cobia run continues on with lots of fish around, the spanish are here in good numbers, there are a few groupers to be had, plenty of pinks and vermillions and, of course, the ever present Red Snappers are piled up just waiting to be caught and released.
Hoo Boy !! The cobia run is on full swing. We never know what kind of season we are going to have in advance but so far this one has been great ! I'm 'bout beat and wore down from riding the tower all day today so I'll just let the pictures show how we have done the past week--

Been a lot happening on the fishing scene since my last report. Grouper season re-opened on April 1st and (drum roll please), the Cobia Are Here !
The weather finally got somewhat nice and I think half the country came to 30-A. It has been a busy spring break with lots of folks here on vacation from the (still snowing ) North.
Okay- It's official, Spring has finally arrived. There are Spring Break kids all up and down 30-A and some of 'em are even swimming in the ( 60 degree) Gulf ! While it's rough again now, we actually had 4 beautiful, sunny, calm days in row !
I got to run 3 of the 4 calm days and we had great catches every trip. Still plenty of good sized (20 to 35#) Amberjacks around. All the Red Snapper you can release at whatever size you want to target. Good bites of Vermilion snappers if you get on the "right" rock and some pretty big triggers mixed in occasionally also.
