McCaskill & Company is a South Walton Gem

November 27, 2012 by Jill Tanner

As a young boy, Bill Campbell was thrilled to visit his grandmother's house when she would bring out all of the jewels collected from her father’s and his great-grandfather’s travels. When Bill graduated college, he went to work as a manager for his family’s hardware and supply businesses. After twenty years of working with his family, the two businesses were sold and Bill was finally able to follow his dream of owning his own fine jewelry store.

William “Bill” Campbell now owns McCaskill and Company, a direct result  of the love of gems he shared with his grandmother, Gussie McCaskill Campbell, way back when.

He started with a small suitcase of jewelry, knocking on doors, selling his wares and staying persistent as he built his business. In 1994, he heard that the Davis family of Seaside was looking for a jeweler and he jumped at the chance. He started with only a small kiosk, but after a year in Seaside, Bill was able to move into a larger space at the Market Shops of Sandestin.

Bill remained the sole employee, putting all his effort, hard-working mentality and diligent attitude toward the objective of having a freestanding building. After four years in the Market Shops he broke ground on the new building.

In 1999, McCaskill and Company opened their new store, located just east of Destin in Miramar Beach. His wife, Elizabeth, joined him after twenty-five years in the mental health industry. She went from being the Clinical Director of Cope, a mental health facility, to a partner in McCaskill and Company. Bill and Elizabeth offer high-end designer jewelry and watches. They find the most elite, couture jewelry, and sell them in a friendly atmosphere.

As you enter McCaskill and Company, you are greeted by the cordial staff and will be offered a warm chocolate chip cookie and a beverage of your choice. The staff then suggests they clean your jewelry as you browse their selection. While there, you may have the pleasure of meeting Addy and Mollie, the Campbell’s two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, who are often in the back playing. The ambiance is one of comfort and tranquility, an unhurried environment where everyone is welcome, and price points reflect all budgets.

Sarah Carolyn Brigman, Bill and Elizabeth’s daughter, opened Sarah Carolyn in 2008 in the very same building. The designer jewelry and accessory boutique is the perfect complement to McCaskill and Company. Growing up in the jewelry business, Sarah Carolyn knows it well, and shares her parent’s passion for jewelry. You will find the same friendly service in her store, with a wide range of prices, averaging between seventy-five and three hundred dollars.

The family takes pride in bringing in the very best designers and doing all the homework for you. With everything under the sun offered online, it can sometimes seem all too easy to just point, click, and buy and hope for the best. It’s sometimes hard to know exactly what you are getting when you can’t see or touch what you are buying. At McCaskill and Company, you will leave knowing everything about your jewelry purchase and be confident that you have the finest.

From graduation, engagement, wedding, the birth of a child, or an anniversary, the happiest moments of your life can be enhanced by jewelry. No matter the occasion or the budget, McCaskill and Company will help you find just what you need.
