May 27, 2014 by SoWal Staff

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman will bring his distinctive Southern Rock sound to the Green at Gulf Place on Scenic Highway 30A in Santa Rosa Beach for a special Memorial Week concert on Wednesday, May 28.

In honor of Memorial Day, Gulf Place will recognize the nation’s military heroes, and donate a portion of the proceeds to the Special Operation Warrior Foundation, serving the families of fallen and wounded special operations forces.

“We are thrilled to bring Gregg Allman to perform for the music loving audiences along 30A and fans from throughout the Southeast,” said Gulf Place Owner John Gaston. “With the timing coinciding with Memorial Day, we thought it was appropriate to honor those who serve our country. We are offering special rates for active and retired military, and are proud to donate a portion of the concert proceeds to the Special Operation Warrior Foundation.”

The Special Operation Warrior Foundation provides full scholarship grants as well as educational and family counseling to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corp special operations personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The Foundation also provides immediate financial assistance for severely wounded special operations personnel and their families.

“Gregg was pleased to hear that the show will support the families of our country’s service men and women. This is his first time visiting the South Walton and Destin area and we’re looking forward to showing him our Southern Hospitality, beautiful beaches, delectable restaurants and coastal activities as well as introducing him to some of our local military,” said venue director Jon Brooks.

Brooks went on to say “Gulf Place is ideal location on 30A to present large concerts, featuring internationally-recognized artists. We’re going to be pulling out all the stops and showing music fans the capabilities of this vibrant beachside venue.”

Gregg Allman is listed by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the “100 greatest singers of all time” and has had seven solo chart-topping albums over his 40 plus year career, including his 2011 Grammy nominated album “Low Country Blues.” Allman introduced the world to Southern Rock and a remarkable catalogue of original songs. During the show, he’ll perform classic Allman Brothers hits as well as some of his blues infused songs off his solo albums, “Low Country Blues” and “All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs and Voice of Gregg Allman.” A Florida native, Allman was born in Daytona Beach, Fla. and later lived in Jacksonville where he and his brother, Duane, launched the Allman Brothers Band in 1969.
