Surfing Deer

George and Ann Hartley have done it again. Making you feel loved with every bite, the owners of Surfing Deer created a place where folks can dine, make memories and enjoy the beauty of the beach. The restaurant’s name pays homage to Cube McGee, the man who developed and shaped Seagrove Beach into the vibrant and soulful place it is today, and his pet deer Bambi.

Surf and turf takes on a deeper meaning at Surfing Deer. Bone-in pork chops are fresh from the farm and seafood plates are piled high with fresh fish and Gulf shrimp, to name a few. Graze on appetizers like fresh local oysters and Cheddar Jalapeno Corn Pancakes with bacon, avocado cilantro crème, corn relish and lime.

Peck on Surfing Deer Gumbo made the traditional way, with duck, andouille, okra, and brown rice. If you’re really hungry, feast on Crispy Pastured Chicken with bacon gnocchi and cheese, and haricots verts. Vegetarians are in for a treat when ordering Cove Rise Farms Veggie Plate, a selection of herbed risotto, seasonal fresh vegetables, mushrooms, and micro greens. Sides like the Farm Pea Ragout are synonymous with home.

For dessert, Farm Stand fruit cobbler and peanut butter pie are guilty pleasures, while the sorbet and berries take a lighter approach to curbing your sweet tooth.

Fine Wine, Deer Beer, and Deerly Mixed Drinks round out the menu at Surfing Deer. Order a drink fit for the man himself, the Cube McGee. Taste a swill of the South with each sip of Knob Creek single barrel bourbon, smoked maple syrup, orange bitters, angostura bitters, orange, lemon, and peach.

Surfing Deer is located on the sacred grounds of Seagrove’s beginnings (in the old V Seagrove location). The restaurant is open Monday-Saturday for dinner and drinks, from 5-9 pm. Follow Surfing Deer on Facebook and visit www.surfingdeer.com for fabulous food and colorful stories.
