Still kicking it at 58 in faded jeans, a white tee shirt and black Converse tennis shoes, Michael Granberry’s attire is easily representative of his black and white photography…Simple, untouched and a canvas for the face and the soul behind that face.
No longer the brave and inexperienced albeit talented 22 year old photographer in the making, Michael traded in city life, raw ambition and success in the advertising world for a slower, richer life when he moved to South Walton in 2002.
From Dothan, Alabama to Atlanta to Los Angeles and finally to the beach, Michael’s 36 years as a photographer has enabled him to hone his skills and true talent for shooting faces under the backdrop of Northwest Florida’s beautiful surroundings…the perfect recipe for composition and lighting.
As an award-winning photographer, Michael’s talent was most recently recognized locally when Visit South Walton’s Tourist Development Council awarded him as the first photographer ever to win the coveted distinction of Artist of the Year in 2010.
Michael can be spotted on most days with camera in hand in his unassuming attire doing what he loves best. Together with his wife, Laura, they enjoy their live-work home in Seaside’s Ruskin Place Artist Colony where they work as team in publishing BeachLIFE magazine and buying for their two shops called the Art of Simple in Seaside, Florida
