This is more rain than Ivan dumped on us

Ivan got here and hovered, but this is more rain in a shorter period. And, we have a ways to go......a total of 15" + expected here.

I live two blocks from Peachtree Creek and we are on such a high water table, I am flooded.....I am also a higher elevation than most. Farm Chic put the wellies on this morning and went to work extracting the water.

My foundation wall is a rather interesting waterfall......so, the positive news is that I see where the water is coming in as it usually takes the path of least resistance, baffling us for quite a while.

My heart goes out to those who have lost their homes and those without power. Please be safe!

I was taking a break and going to yoga, but can't get there. Will get the the wellies back on and am hoping this much water didn't damage my furnace! I just want a massage and a pedicure at this point. <sigh>

My house is dry, but it took me 4 scary hours to get to my kids today and then another hour to get us all home. They were stranded at separate schools on the other side of at least a dozen flooded streets. We drive over so many small bridges over unremarkable creeks everyday. Now I can map everyone of them between I-75, their schools and our house.

Thankful we are home safe and thinking of those who aren't so lucky.

Glad Y'all are ok; I think most schools are closed tomorrow. This is new 100 yr. flood record for Atlanta. Peachtree Creek has flooded several miles, firetrucks just flew down my quiet street and I went to check on a friend's house who is out of town. The water is up to their back door! It's not raining right now, but the waters are still rising.

We are expecting another round tonight and I am hoping for a miracle that it passes us by!

Stay safe up there everyone, be careful. What a terrible thing happening.

I just moved from Vinings, GA to SoWal so I still check the local news & talk with friends there. The reports and pictures have been scary! I hope today was the last of this rain for you.

I was just watching CNN and they mentioned the area of PeachTree Creek, how bad was your flooding Lynnie? Hope you didn't sustain major damage.

Good luck, we're about to get the after effects as it comes down this way.

You can always look on the bright side, how's that lake of y'all's doing?

Thank you! No damage that I know of, yet. The furnace/AC had water up about 2-3 inches. So, am letting that dry out (thankfully, it's not hot or cold), before I turn the main back on and see what's up with that. I have a feeling it's ok.

Major damage is my lower back because I have a girlie type dry-wet vac and it only sucks about 1.5 gal before I have to dump it......did that about 80 times. But, if I had one bigger than that, I probably wouldn't be able to carry it to dump the water.......the joys!

P.S. I like the way you spell PeachTree!

Mahvelous! Now, I get to worry about another home....and, I mean this very humbly and from a fortunate perspective!

You know how much we love to be neighborly and let water out.....if we haven't opened the dam, something is seriously wrong with us! All lakes, creeks and backyards are full pool! Oysters should be tasty this winter! But, AL was slammed before us, so we're probably being neighborly and not letting that much out.

Can we add WD-40 to the duct tape, etc list for the cureall fixall? I think I just did a little minor surgery on my sump pump....... help me sleep well tonight!

I am truly sorry for your weather troubles. From homes flooding to school children threatened by rising water is pretty serious. Take care all.

Lake Allatoona is up 6 feet in 24 hours. We're above full summer pool.

We've had no rain since 6 pm, but I know another round is headed our direction overnight. I think I will work from home tomorrow. My commute is an hour & a half on a normal day, and tomorrow's drive has nightmare potential. Think I'll skip it this time.

If you live up by Allatoona, you're already on the warnings for flooding until 2:30AM. The reason I couldn't get to yoga today, which is literally 1/2 mi. from my house, was because 75/85 was closed and that gridlocked Peachtree. Enjoy your day at home! And, be safe!!

I left Midtown about 30 minutes before the 75/85 fiasco. Something told me I needed to get out of Dodge and closer to my kids before things got worse. You just have to trust your instinct sometimes.

Hope you stay safe and dry tonight!

Agreed.

Thank goodness we live on a hill. If it flooded here, someone would need to build an arc.

Lynnie, what is a wellie?

Well, lemme just edjumacate Y'all. If you're from N. Europe, they're wellies. If you're from the Deep South, they're rubbers. I was just being polite.

Only my friends from the South know what I'm talking about when I tell them, 'I had my rubbers on.'

As Johnny Carson used to say, "I did not know that."

I thought a wellie was some kind of pump for removing water.

BTW did you hear that Atlanta will get 1-3 inches between that afternoon and tomorrow night? If the forecast doesn't get better, no way I'm going to the Georgia Tech/UNC game. No point in watching it in the clubhouse on a monitor when I can watch it at home on TV.

I love Johnny Carson! And, I will be watching my sump pump this weekend with maybe a little football!

Just spoke with a client who was closing on a house last Friday on Peachtree Battle Ave. Didn't close, house flooded on Monday and now they do not have to close if they don't want to; but, they are negotiating a better price!

What I meant is that if it's raining hard, I'm not willing to sit outdoors in the stands to watch the game. So there's no point in us going to the trouble to deal with the traffic getting to/from the game, only to sit inside the clubhouse at Georgia Tech and watch it on a monitor. We might as well just stay home and watch it on TV.

One of our local weathermen on our Channel 3 news yesterday morning said we have had rain 19 days out of the month here, and 8.55 inches of rain which is a good deal for here, of course that is probably at the airport. That puts us at around 6+ inches above normal for the year. I can guarantee you I have had more than any 8.55" at my house this month according to my rain gauge. We have not dried out at all, all the yards are high because it is too soggy to mow them. We are supposed to have sun all weekend but I've yet to see it this morning. It sure has everyone in a sour mood.

Eight days later.

I finally tested the furnace as it got wet. Just decided to not do anything with it and let it dry out - it works - Wahoo!!!!!!

However! Leak in the roof. I wonder if it's time for a new one? Nah, can't be. Same spot as always. Must be something with a loose shingle or two in that section.

Supposed to rain here the next three or four days.

How old is your roof? Asphalt Shingle usually only lasts 15-20 years. Is the leak near any plumbing, often the seals on roof vents will wear out and it's just rain water running through the cracks.

There is some kinda' vent right there. Come on up and we'll check it out together. I don't get on the roof without lipstick on, however.

I've owned the house 12 years. Nine mos. after I bought it, tree took out the back of the house and all of that part is approx. 11 yrs. old. Something tells me it has to do with this area and a loose shingle??

I don't want to put any kind of strange energy out there because I've had enough of that lately, but I'd rather replace a furnace than buy a new roof for this house.

Sounds like a worn out seal on the vent. What weekend works for you? The weekend of the soiree is out since we'll be wasted in Margaritaville.
