As an FYI, cell towers will be clogged with calls in this area, if they survive a disaster. You can text message much easier than placing a cell phone call. Texting will be your friend.

Add WEAR (ABC) out of Pensacola to the television list. They were actually pretty useful during Ivan when it came to covering Destin and the western parts of Walton.

Emails and using a non-local telephone exchange are also good ways to communicate.
It can take hours or days to get through to local numbers, so you can help by not clogging up the phone lines if you have other resources to use. Much easier to designate an out of state family or friend and let them get the word out that you are okay and it leaves the local exchanges open for those who need it for emergency use.

If you have a phone service similar to Vonage it most likely won't work either.

What do those stand for? I'm on facebook so I thought I would check this out.
And since I only have phone and internets - no tv, which radio station do you suggest I tune into for Destin?
Thanks for any help - this is my first storm in FL - used to procedure in Louisiana.

Walton County Sheriffs Office and South Walton Fire District
the most dependable radio station would be to purchase a NOAA weather radio and a battery operated radio that will allow you to pick AM and FM stations up. I will check on radio stations and let you know...
