Another reason to shop Yellowfin
I found out today that Destin Commons Bass Pro has been laying off their full timers and replacing them with part timers with lower salaries. Person I talked to today had been with them from day one here, and along with 18 other full timers were given the axe. Ho ho ho! Shop Yellowfin for your tackle needs!

Great example of just how those giant chains bring you those low prices - by cutting employee benefits and salaries!

And the thing is that, unless you're talking their house brand, Bass Pro isn't terribly cheap. I can remember looking at some topographic map software there one day, and then going home and discovering that their price was full metal retail, and that it was actually 25% cheaper from Amazon.

I don't really shop there - I prefer other local places that have better employee treatment and customer service. Plus, Papa Scooterbug, Scooterbro, and the Scooterhounds select their gifts from Cabela's.

...and this happened during "high season" for retailers--what's going to happen when we get to late January and February and beyond as we slog through this recession for the next couple of years.
This is a heads-up to all who are lucky enough to have full-time employment at the moment...get your financial houses in order and have a contingency plan should the same happen to you.
Just because the boss is acting as if everything is OK doesn't mean the balance sheet isn't bleeding red...a boss has to put on a happy-face to keep employees in the dark until the axe falls (especially in retail and restaurants around the high-holiday season).

I happen to like that Bass Pro is here, but I'll say this, Yellow Fin is an outstanding store and yes, if you are local, that is the place to visit. Great staff and ownership. I don't go in too often as I haven't done much salt water fishing, but when I have visited the store, they have always been super. And they know the ins and outs of what is currently going on in the gulf.
Definately support Yellowfin.

I try to shop around to get the best deals. My thoughts were that Yellowfin would be higher than BassPro just because of the location, not true, most of the items I purchase are equal or cheaper at Yellowfin, of course you cant put a price on the atmosphere and information at Yellowfin. When I first came to SoWal about 4 years ago I didnt know anything about surf fishing but today I can say that I am very good at it because of the tips that I have received from John at Yellowfin. (Probably not as good as I think, but do ok for a North Miss guy) I always drop a few bucks with Yellowfin and will be dropping some more next week.

My brother in law was coveting my Costa Del Mar shades you guys sold me. He wondered if I had a hard time finding a pair that 'looked right' on me. I told him, no, it was easy, I went to a great little store and the lady who worked there dragged out about 20 different pairs and we did a long session of eliminating the bad matches, then choosing the 'possibles' until we found the perfect pair. You couldn't do that in the big stores, I promise. Here are the grouper we caught with our Costas, but the sun was too low to have them on by that time.

For those not familiar, Yellowfin Ocean Sports is on 30A in Seagrove next to the Wheelhouse and across from the Seagrove Villas.

And they are a GREAT local business! If you search sowal, you will find many positive comments about them.

They have new short sleeve Ts with beautiful shrimp on the back (shrimp graphics, not live shrimp!!) They are really great looking and different! Yellowfin Logo on front.
And a great stocking stuffer - shell collecting bags- lets the sand fall through the mesh. I am getting a few of these for our Indian Pass shell collecting adventures.

As if hanging out with John, slobbering over the Hobies and reels wasn't reason enough to go in. You also get Lynn tempting you to buy yet another pair of sunglasses (because 4 pair is not enough). Ahhh, I love that place
