    Girl Scout Holiday project

JDarg and I are wanting a project for our Daisys to do this holiday season. There is a program over in Oakaloosa county that gathers backpacks/luggage for children that are taken from their homes and put into foster homes. Does anyone know of a program like this for Walton County???

If not we would appreciate suggestions on a easy way for our girls to make a difference.

That's really nice that you want to do something good with your Daisy Troop! When Philippa was a Daisy, they made holiday cards--lots of coloring and painting involved, so the kids loved it. They went to a local nursing home and sang Christmas carols and gave out their handmade creations.

IBD that is a wonderful idea. I saw on the news where when children are taken out of meth homes, they have to leave everything behind. These groups (which by the way I don't think we could ever have too many) get together blankets, toothbrushes, toys, anything that you can think of that they leave behind. It is a great thing to do. If you need any help with that, you just let me know. I am a former Brownie myself. (They didn't have Daisies when I was a kid).

When children are removed from bad situations, there is no time to grab their favorite (and familiar) things. Of course they don't have anything useful to pack with either- like suitcases or duffels. This is such a great cause, and we are happy to participate in the "official" program over in Gulf Breeze, but since our little Daisies are Walton County Daisies, we would like to help children closer to home if it is workable.

So- if anyone knows of someone involved in child advocacy through the court system here in Walton County, let me know.

In the meantime- please look in your closets and garages. We will gladly accept gently used suitcases, duffles, backpacks, satchels, etc.- anything that can be used to haul a sad little kid's stuff.

Would it be too late after Christmas? We won't be back down until the day or two after. We have several small never-used luggage bags, the ones that come with the 3-piece luggage sets you buy. They'd probably work out fine for young children, but they're useless for adults, and they sit lonely in the basement. I'd like to see them put to a good purpose!

Once I have a contact person, I'm sure we can donate whenever we want to! Thanks Mermy-

    Re: Girl Scout Holiday project

When i lived in Atlanta I worked with abused and neglected kids. They would carry their belongings around in plastic trash bags. How humilating and sad for these children. We began a program similiar to this and companies would donate luggage, really put smiles on their little faces. You guys are great for thinking of this and I will be more than glad to help out in any way!!
