iwish: sometimes you just gotta eat a cheeseburger... with fries, with no regret.
how is your diet going other than yesterday? when we first started this thread, it took me weeks to finally be motivated enough to take the first steps in changing the way I eat. and everyone on this thread has been inspirational to me, and helped me make those steps. you'll get there too.

Re: SoWell on Sowal
I made a little friendly wager with two co-workers today to see who can lose the most weight by Nov. 15. Now, tell me WHY I did this!!
They're on low carb, so they will be eating CHEESE in front of me, along with sour cream, gravy and fat laden salad dressings. This could get ugly!
But, maybe it'll help me keep on track. I now have three places I have to "report", so SURELY I will be able to stay focused........
Of course, a trip to Cajun country this weekend will be tough!! Pray for me.

Re: SoWell on Sowal
Thanks for the encouragement... I see to have a little more control. It has been a ridiculously, busy week which means I do not cook and eat whatever doesn't crawl away.
Plan on being extra good this weekend. The weather here is beautiful, so I might walk or ride my bike. Need to find a way to make the exercise thing a regular part of each day, but I am such a slug. I only want to sweat on the beach or when spending quality time with my husband

Re: SoWell on Sowal
being a slug is so easy to do. especially when you are working. especially if you are a teacher... that is very challenging work every day. you can't just go take a break and chat on sowal in the middle of class...
I haven't done well with the exercise this week. but I know this is key. and I'll get back on it this coming week. I've eaten decently, but not as well as I should (I have eaten out more than usual). Water intake is pretty good.
Ride your bike! I think I will too!

Re: SoWell on Sowal
I fell of the health wagon, too, for about 3 days, not horribly, but enough to say tsk tsk. But, I'm back on today and hope to lose another 1-2 lbs over the next week. I may even start walking to work or walking on the treadmill. Like Tootsie says, it can be tough to exercise while working (and taking care of kids, etc.) but people lately keep reminding us to take care of ourselves, too. So, I'm going to try harder to take that to heart! Actually, I take pretty good care of myself in many ways -- going to SoWal being one of my favorites -- but I have to work that "take care of yourself" more into day-to-day life.

Re: SoWell on Sowal
I'm reading a book called Body for Life for Women. It's rather direct and no-nonsense and lays out a good basic program integrating Mind, Mouth and Muscle (MMM).
Mind: finding motivation to take care of yourself.
Mouth: eating plan, not dieting
Muscle: training/exercise
Body for Life for Women Pledge:
I will give to myelf as I give to others
I will value my health as I value the health of my loved ones
I won't ask, "should I or shouldn't I" about matters of self care
I will just do it
I humbly accept that I must work to be the best me I can be
I will choose to work for myself, rather than abandon myself
I will embrace adversity as an opportunity to test my mental and physical strength
just something to think about as we strive to find and keep the motivation...

Re: SoWell on Sowal
I wonder if the author stole the title from author, Bill Phillips, or if it is a collaboration. Body for Life, by Bill Phillips is an excellent guide for exercise, and I use his method for lifting weights. I think his diet plan makes since, but it is too difficult for most of us to eat 5 meals a day.

Re: SoWell on Sowal
Body for Life for Women is a refinement of the original Body for Life, specific to women, written by Pamela Peeke.
the eating plan is based on 6 meals a day: 3 main meals and 3 snacks. I think this is because of the daily exercise you are suppose to be doing as prescribed in the book.. makes sense. but it also addresses increasing or decreasing food based on your current exercise level, etc.
-
Re: SoWell on Sowal
No, not for hypoglycemics. The premise of eating 5 meals per day is that your body will have a higher rate of metabolizing if your brain knows that more food is on the way. There are meal ideas in the book, too. Portions are small, and preparation is healthy methods of cooking. There is a balance of protein and carbs, which your body needs when lifting weights and doing aerobic exercise. The book is not a diet book, and doing only the dietary portion of the book will probably not help you much. As we all know, a healthy body is made from a combination of dietary intake, exercise, and environment.
I have not read [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Body-Life-Women-Physical-Transformation/dp/1579546013/sr=8-2/qid=1158416075/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-6623106-6100608?ie=UTF8&s=books"]Body for Life for Women[/ame], but I can say that [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Body-Life-Mental-Physical-Strength/dp/0060193395/sr=8-1/qid=1158416075/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-6623106-6100608?ie=UTF8&s=books"]Body for Life[/ame], by Bill Phillips is a great guide.

Re: SoWell on Sowal
DD: you know what? life is all about eating with gusto, on occasion. and without regret. now, get your ass back on track today or I'm coming over there with my lip stapler.
you know I will do it!!!
I weighed in, and although I thought I did well over the last week, there is no weight change. still 7 lb down. I've lost 2 inches in my waist, and one inch in my hips, and one inch in each thigh. this makes me feel motivated to keep it up! and motivation is what I've lacked for quite some time...
thanks to you and all for the inspiration!!!

I know dear, I'm just worried. You may have to come over here with that stapler--once I start eating, it's tough to get back on track. But I will be fine. Can't weigh til I get to work, so will check in later.
Woohoo!! Look at you, with all those inches gone!!!! Does Kurt still recognize you? This is wonderful!!

Re: SoWell on Sowal
Hey, Tootsie. Congratulations on that 7 pounds and lost inches. I have stablized a bit after losing about 3-4 pounds since starting on SoWell but would like to go the next 3-4 over the next 2-3 weeks. OK, I'm getting motivated... treadmill is ready in the basement... going to start walking on it. Next week I may even be able to walk to work (I haven't for the past month because I've had to bring my laptop to work for a project every day, but I stop doing that this week). I haven't added any exercise to my routine yet since starting SoWell, just calorie counting. So my new goals are to:
continue calorie counting
add more water
eat more fruit and veggies
walk to work at least 3 days a week (that would be about 3/4 miles each way) or walk on treadmill.
Thanks for the motivation, all.Paula

Re: SoWell on Sowal
Ok gulls. I am so out of it. I'm eating right, but I can barely get to the Y twice a week with this new schedule. Lost 7 lbs. since I started back to work full time, but I feel like I'm turning into jello. I need to start getting to bed earlier so I can work out in the morning instead of at night. But that means no late nights Sowalling.....what's a gull to do?

Re: SoWell on Sowal
ok I am sure I lost some weight but it was not the proper way. I got food poisoning or something like that last night. Slept til 10:00 today and man I feel 10 lbs. lighter.
I have never been through that before.
Anyway, today
- drink lots of clear liquids
- eat bland food
- eat small portions

Re: SoWell on Sowal
Sorry you've been under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. I think I must have been possessed by some awful evil spririts this week. As you can see, I have been eating everthing in sight all week. I have had lunch invitations everyday this week--which is so rare! And to top it off, mr. dd took me to lunch today at this famous chicken/chicken fried steak place. That's all they serve. Well, since I don't do bones, I had no choice but to have the steak. And, I had to go cause mr. dd NEVER takes me to lunch!! So, dear, I will be crying the blues on Monday as well--unless I can figure out a way to walk about 50 miles between now and then!!
