ECMS Orientation, 6 PM Tonight! (8/6)

    WELCOME TO THE STINGRAY NATION!

Back-to-school orientation for Emerald Coast Middle School is tonight, 6 pm, in the gym. Students and parents- get ready to be "wowed"!

Students will get schedules, meet teachers and staff, and get info on transportation, uniforms, meals, sports, clubs, and just about everything you will need to know for the 2012-2013 school year.

And parents- don't forget to sign up for PACT, (Parent Advisory Council Team)! Look for them in the gym!

Went last night - looking forward to a great year! However last night was a mess... maybe next year they might do this on 2 different nights or times? 5th & 6th grades on night with 5th grade in cafeteria & 6th grade in gym, then same set up for 7th & 8th grades another night or time... Or maybe send a letter/email home to parents asking everyone to report to their first period class & have all the info there that will be needed for lunch, bus, schedules, and have sports in the gym and clubs in the cafeteria. Yes - over the next week when the dust settles I will let them know as well.

Too many people to take advantage of talking to the clubs, sports, or pact... Really would have loved to have talked to a few of them but it was too chaotic & crowded.

Still looking forward to a great school year!

Yes I agree- kinks to be worked out- it is such a large school! On a positive note, I was thrilled to see so many interested parents and excited kids- overflowing is better than a small turnout, and if a schedule is not perfect on the first day of school, it is not the end of the world. Adjustments will be happening for at least a week, just like and high school, and who can forget drop/add week in college? It's all part of growing up! We went back today, got our schedule, walked around, and are ready to go tomorrow. There did seem to be a lot of parents who waited until the very last minute to register their kids, make requests, order uniforms, etc.

We did a lot of the club and sports stuff at the open house last spring. Since most of the coaches and club leaders are teachers, they had to be in their rooms last night to meet the students and parents. There is a sports/activity handout available in the office (I don't know if it is online) that has the coaches and club leaders names and email addresses so you can contact them directly with questions.

Thanks much! There is definitely a lot to do at the school - for parents & students. Thankfully we were not too worried about the schedule but just missed the extra stuff. (mine is a social person so the extra stuff is what's interesting.)
It's going to be a fun year!
