    Bike rentals and fireworks

We will be coming to Seagorve for the first time and we would like to rent some bikes. Any ideas of who to rent from? Also, does any one do a fireworks display?
Where is the best place to see them?
    Thanks!

kkn, you can try these places I am putting the links to below. There have been other posts on here as to places to rent bikes that deliver. Maybe someone else will reply to this as to other places to try. Butterfly Bike and Beach Rentals is on 30A at Seagrove Beach. I would try them first.

Well, Sueshore, I know people think since I do not live down there I couldn't possibly know anything about things in that area, I have ways of finding things. I like to try and find things for people!

The 30a. com link is old. I don't think Moon Doggys exists anymore? At least it isn't in Gulf Place.

We had a good experience with Big Daddy's, and they will reserve bikes/kayaks for you and deliver them.

Since the 30-A link is old, and has Big Daddy's on it and the Butterfly Bike and Beach Rentals, does the Butterfly Bike and Beach rentals still exist? Apparently whoever is in charge of updating website stuff there isn't doing so! Sounds like our computer tech guy!

Oh well, just trying to be helpful since I was just mainly looking for ones near where she was.

    Walton Considers Fireworks Ban

    By Christopher Mitchell (cmitchell@wmbb.com)
    News 13 On Your Side
    Friday, June 23, 2006

DeFuniak Springs, FL - Walton County leaders are considering a ban on fireworks because of drought conditions, but it may not apply to larger fireworks displays.

Signs advertising fireworks are popping up all over the Florida panhandle for people to buy fireworks for their personal use, but if an ordinance is passed by Walton County commissioners Tuesday, local residnts won't be able to use the fireworks they bought this year for July 4th celebrations.

State fire officials say Walton County is among the dryest in all of Florida, and officials at the Walton County Emergency Operations Center is recommending to county leaders to pass the ordinance to reduce the risk of fire.

County emergency officials say they are not recommending a ban on professional fireworks to county commissioners right now, so residents should be able to enjoy professional fireworks displays provided by the city of DeFuniak Springs and some south Walton businesses who hired licensed and certified firework professionals.

    Re: Bike rentals and fireworks

SJ, I thought you had mentioned this. I had initially mentioned something about a fireworks ban in my reply to kkn but had taken it out as they have started another thread about fireworks displays. With all the pines down there, and the dry conditions, probably best! They are totally illegal up here! They are not even sold here anywhere in the county. They cannot stop all the people here that do shoot them, too many of them. And since we can go to Fayette County or Tipton County and buy fireworks, that defeats the purpose of them not allowing them to be sold here. People just go there and bring them back into Shelby County.

Walton County, along with several other counties in NW FL, have burn bans and if a person, who intentionally starts a fire which gets out of control, will have to pay for all charges related to extinguishing the fire. This could be in amounts in the thousands of dollars very easily.

I believe the enitre state of Georgia and the state of Alabama are both under burn bans, too. Please be careful!!!! This is my home and I have enough problems to worry about without you shooting fireworks. It is bad enough that you litter the beach and the water with your trash and fireworks debris, but I sure as heck don't want you burning down my house and killing my dogs.

Don't blame you there. We worry about that also. We did have rain last Saturday, and some around the middle of the week, but we still are below for the month and year. Alot of pines around through here also. Very dry here!

That's sweet of you to want to be helpful but businesses change so much in SoWal--opening, closing, moving, etc--that's is really best to offer information based on personal and recent information. I wouldn't rely on info gathered from websites too much, because as you've found, they're not always updated on a timely basis.

As for the topic of this thread - probably not a good idea to shoot fireworks from a bike.

Seaside will have a big fireworks display again this year.

It was quite spectacular last year - they shot the fireworks from a barge in the gulf. Enjoy!

SJ, I noted family fun packs of fireworks for sale at Watercolor Publix. Nothing too deadly, but even the sparklers are risky now.

Yes, I was disappointed to see them still on the shelf on Sat am, because I asked the manager to consider removing them completely last week due to the dry, dry season we have. Tonight we finally received a hard 4 minute shower, but as dry as we are, I don't think it helped much.

A friend of mine in Niceville lit a sparkler for his kids a couple of years ago. It flared suddenly and turned into a little mini-fireball. Third degree burns, multiple surgeries and his hand still doesn't work right.

Any recommendations on when to arrive on the beach for fireworks? My husband will try to convince me that we can just see them from the beach where we are in BMB and I like to be up close so I don't miss any details! That's just how I am. Do any other beach communities have fireworks displays?

The big displays are in Baytowne Wharf and Seaside. From most anywhere on the beaches in SoWal, you will see a huge show of fireworks from people all over the beach. Some are huge and I would guess, illegal. Just don't sit close to the people lighting them. From most anywhere on our beaches of SoWal, you should be able to see the displays in PCB and Destin, although you don't hear the boom. The shows will usually begin following dusk, maybe around 7:45pm at the earliest. Go early and enjoy the sunset.

Does anyone know what the county decided regarding fireworks. They were meeting this afternoon to decide whether they were going to ban or allow them.

OK. I have answered my own question.

    Headlines in todays Daily News:

Walton bans fireworks — but only those already outlawed in Florida

Does anyone other than me find that headline a bit strange? I mean, if they are already outlawed, then ........

exactly. most of the fireworks you see being shot on the beach are illegal. I think the law in FL states that the fireworks must not be projectiles (or something like that) .

So, now I wonder, are they issuing any permits? Since they are not illegal??

To be issued a permit, one must first apply. The Sheriff's Dept will have plenty to worry about with all of the drunk drivers.
