WCTA Commission Candidate Question Report
Where do the 14 Commissioner Candidates Stand on 7 key issues facing Walton County ?
We mailed a 7 question multi-part questionnaire to each of the 14 individuals running for County Commissioner to provide the candidates the opportunity to go on the record with their position on some key issues facing Walton County over the next few years.
We used a format asking questions that were to be answered by checking a box with no narrative and the others required a narrative response. In certain cases you will find that you are referred to our website (www.waltontaxpayers.org) to view a candidate's narrative response. Click on the "Original Questionnaire" icon beside the candidates name in the table below to view their response.
The survey was mailed through the US Postal Service to each candidate. The survey was also emailed to each candidate at the same time to give them equal time to answer each question. Delivery to each candidate was confirmed.
Two candidates chose not to participate - Mr. Bill Chapman and Mr. Allen White.
The WCTA does not feel that it should interpret a narrative response to determine whether the candidate’s response was a yes or no. Voters are free to interpret as they choose. These questions may not cover all of the questions that you as a voter might have, and we encourage you to ask your own questions of the candidates.
Keys to response notations
No response - the candidate chose not to participate
See WCTA Website - the candidate either failed to check a box as a response or provided a response to a narrative question that exceeded the space available for each answer.
You can see each candidates original submitted questionnaire by visiting our website at www.waltontaxpayers.org. We have include in the table on our website links to each candidates website, email address and phone number.
Thank you for your interest in the upcoming County Commissioner election.
The WCTA does not endorse candidates but feels that an informed electorate can make better choices.
Note : Candidates were given the opportunity to correct any of their responses that we made in keying their data, but were not allowed to change a prior response.
A summary of the candidates' responses to our questions is attached - (see link below to download the summary report).

Link doesn't work. I would be very interested to review the candidates' responses. Could you please check the link or post a new one?

So SN were the 12 that took the time to answer unwise?
Mr. Chapman's response was that he was busy and could not respond in 9 days. He did state that he would continue to study the issues.
We are still waiting for his response 14 days later.
Mr. White did not respond in any way.
Their actions narrowed the field in D3 for me personally.

I see it as a group took the time to formulate questions about our local issues, and these 2 candidates couldn't be bothered to take the time to answer. Even if one person, as an individual citizen, had sent these questions to a candidate, a response is expected if the candidate wants the vote.
If they don't have the time (or interest level) to answer these important questions about our community, then they don't have the time to hold the office and work on county business.

Has anyone considered that 30+ years in law enforcement and knowing the people - and needs of the people - in all corners of Walton, combined with a heavy dose of common sense, honesty and nobody in their back pockets, count for anything?
Btw, locally, I don't vote for people I don't know. It's easy to give the populace the answers they want to hear on paper, but truthfulness in actions speak far louder than words.

Oh, and I get an almost immediate response whenever I ask either of those candidates anything. I don't see why it would be any different with anyone else.

So if they answer all your questions almost immediately why could they not find the time to answer a few questions from the WCTA?
It would appear that they would have jumped at the opportunity to go on the record for all to see side by side with all the candidates.
Their honest words would have come through for all to read in comparison "to responses written to say what the reader wanted to hear."
The report is being widely distributed both electronically and in print at a cost of close to $3000.00.
What was reported were "their words" not some interpretation of their words.
I know them both and appreciate their prior service to Walton County. I voted for one of them in the past.Last edited by Bob Hudson; 07-19-2012 at 07:11 PM.

No idea why they didn't reply, and you don't want to know what the first thought that came to mind was.

Seriously...I have my mind made up about each county race. My candidates may not win; they rarely do. It is good that the WCTA took the time and the expense to put this together, and I do apologize for hijacking the thread. Peace out.Go Seminoles...fight team fight...SCALP'EM!!

In looking at the financial reports of the candidates I saw that Brannon Contruction Co. made a $500 contribution to one of the commission candidates. Any connection to Scott Brannon? If it is I'll mark that candidate off my list.

Thanks for the survey. Good to see some ideas instead of just roadside signs!

Since I'm not a native of the area it's impossible for me to only vote for people I know. And there are people that I do know that I would vote for if they were running for sewer inspector. Some citizens need to find out all they can to make an informed decision on who to vote for. Things like education, work experience and other factors are helpful. I also have learned to look at who candidates take money from. Some elected officials are bought and paid for by those with a not so sterling reputation.
