When It Comes to Fireworks, Leave the Shows to the Pros!
Fireworks are dangerous and most are illegal in the state of Florida. That’s the message this July Fourth holiday from the Walton County Safety Coalition (WCSC), comprised of the South Walton Fire District (SWFD), the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), the South Walton Tourist Development Council (TDC), and the Florida Division of Forestry. Under Florida law, only novelty-type fireworks are legal for consumer usage, and anything that flies in the air or explodes is prohibited.
“We understand that out-of-state visitors have many opportunities to purchase fireworks as they travel to South Walton, but we want to make it clear that fireworks that explode or fly through the air are illegal and will be confiscated,” says South Walton Fire District Fire Chief Rick Talbert. “We encourage visitors and locals to attend one of the free fireworks displays scheduled for the holiday, instead of risking their safety and the safety of their neighbors with illegal fireworks.”
For a complete list of safety guidelines or for more information, visit www.swfd.org/fireworks or call 850-267-1298.
