Cellulite
Here's the big question that I've struggled with my entire life:
The attire for teenaged girls at the beach this week is a bikini with perhaps a t-shirt that doesn't cover the rear end. Why is it that no matter how thin they are, they have cellulite (there are a few exceptions)?
With me, I thought it was a weight problem, so I lost a lot of weight. Then I thought it was a fitness problem, so I started running at least 5 miles a day. I paid for endermologie. That didn't work. I bought one of those cellulite massagers. Didn't help. Cellulite cream. didn't work either.
Why are women cursed with cellulite? Is there anything we can do about it?

What I wonder is if it always existed on women. I don't remember noticing it on women when I was young. I DO remember being horrified when I had it show up!!!!!!! But, it wasn't til after I had kids. I wish I DID know how to get rid of the stuff....without too much effort of course.

Mine showed up when I was 16 and thin. I used to think it is something that one is genetically predisposed to. But I see so many thin young girls with it that I think it is hormonal, possibly from eating meat from animals treated with hormones?

I think Beach Runner is on to something in your second post but are you sure those young girls have cellulite? I have never seen it on a young girl. I don't remember it when I was young (which is a long time ago). Bigger question what is endermologie???

I think you are equating thin with being fit. We talk a lot about the concept of being "skinny fat." In fact, our post yesterday mentioned this concept. Optimal body composition means not having excess fat while having sufficient muscle. The young, thin girls you are seeing are likely skinny fat. Their body fat percentage numbers might surprise you, even if they fit in a size 2. The cure for cellulite? I'd say heavy squats. Fill that tissue with lean muscle. Of course, we believe heavy squats are the cure for just about everything.

You have cellulite because you are a real person, not someone who has been airbrushed and photoshopped.
Just tell yourself that others do not notice it as much as you do and that in any given situation there is someone with worse cellulite.Basically, I'm just passing through on my way to Australia.

Perhaps it has something to do with sitting a lot, I don't have any cellulite, and I have been standing up, on my feet, for 10 years

New procedure announced on The Today Show this AM. A laser is used to cut the connective tissue which makes the dimples. Then the laser is used to cut out the fat underneath. Finally the laser is used on the outside surfaces of the fat to produce collagen. They say the results should last a year.
So now I have to lose the weight I gained after being depressed after exercising excessively plus becoming as thin as someone in a concentration camp, yet still having cellulite. This discovery has given me the motivation to try again -- exercise daily, eat healthy, then get this new treatment.

Or just drink a glass of wine, look in the mirror, slap your self on the butt and say "damn, I look good".
No lasers needed.Basically, I'm just passing through on my way to Australia.

I can honestly say that I have never noticed anyone's cellulite. I am sure I have it, though I am not sure, I don't own a full length mirror. ;) Also, i ain't backing in the shower for anybody. Take me as I am or not. Be thankful for your body, for there are some that probably wish they had it. IMHO.

BR, surgery isn't a solution. Healthier eating and exercise helps minimize cellulite. Eat organic and good fats, yes fats can be good for you. Exercise and using some supplements that will help move toxins through your lymphatic system work great.
I walk every day at least 1 mile with the dog, use light weights, eat only organic now, use chlorella and red root (red root helps get the lymphatic system moving debris and toxins out)
I quit smoking, too!
I've noticed that I've built more muscle and I don't know if the cellulite went away or it's just not as noticeable. I've had it a long time. It runs in my family. But, without changing your lifestyle, it will just come back again even if you've had surgery.

Darn good advice. I was lamenting a few months ago (to my sister) about my appearance. I've always been petite, small frame, decent muscle tone in arms, legs, buttocks - but NEVER had a flat stomach, even when I was 98 lbs at 16 (it's not a huge belly, but I've always had a small pouch). Now that I'm 43, and yes I'm also a beer lover, my tummy is a bit bigger - I can still wear a size 4 or 6, but I have this flabby tummy that I think looks awful in certain cute "shirts" - so I quite wearing those shirts. My sister pulled me in front of a mirror and said "Ok, do you remember how you looked when you were 16? You looked GREAT, but even then you weren't happy with something....so NOW, what would you give to look like when you were 16? Ok, now think about how you look now, and imagine yourself being 60, 75 or 80. Would you be happy when you're 75 to look like you look NOW???? The key to looking good in those shirts is being CONFIDENT and HAPPY and EMBRACING yourself".
She's right, and so are you.
Not saying we should let ourselves go - being healthy is important! But it's also important to realize we are NOT 16, and how we present ourselves leaves a much more lasting impression than how we *don't* present ourselves (i.e., hiding behind big sloppy shirts).

Healthy and realistic are the big ones for me.
We constantly compare ourselves to photos of women who have a team of professionals who work on their diet, skin, hair, and bodies, before they bring in the professional team that works on their makeup, hair and clothes, before they get photographed by professionals, and then have more professionals alter and perfect the image before we see it.
Kim Kardashian and Jlo's famous butts have cellulite. It's just life.Basically, I'm just passing through on my way to Australia.
