How is the Beach / Dune Conditions after Tropical Storm Lee?

Did the storm hurt or help beach / dune conditions?

It was good. Just like the last couple of near misses we gained sand. The waves just reached the foot of the dunes. A direct hit, even of a tropical storm, will surely eat in to the dunes - scary!

I have only walked Grayton and was pleased to see no oil evidence. The surf was full of starfish.

The Western Lake outflow was pushed way back. I could barely drive around it last week. This week the beach is flat and dry on that end.

It flattened my beach and kicked up a bunch of trash, but no significant damage or tar balls on my last patrol.

Everyone is pretty much in agreement with the official report.

Flat beaches dunes fine, little to no impacts- most visible changes near the lake outfalls
Western Walton County Project performed well
    Lost one flag pole
No TDC walkovers sustained damages, some private, less-robust, walkovers lost a few steps.

The outflow at Eastern Lake moved to the north by almost 30 yards! Saw a bunch of starfish late yesterday in the surf

Sometimes it is hard to tell in in just one area but if you look at the overall picture a lot of the offshore sand moves up on to the beach and dunes through surf and wind. Also the beach can look flatter but the actual elevation has risen.

Thankfully the dunes on the beach in front of our neighborhood in Seagrove didn't get eroded, although the strong surf got REALLY close. South of the dunes got a little erosion.

I went to Grayton today, and the upper beach there doesn't look like it's changed. There is still the sugary white sand that you have to trudge through to get to the water. On Dune Allen, it is flat all the way to the dunes...hard packed sand, so it seemed like a lot had been washed away. It's weird that the two beaches were affected so differently.
