Emerald Coast Middle School Back-to-School Pep Rally and Student Orientation 8/5/11

School will start in a few weeks and they won’t know the exact numbers until the students show up, but enrollment for the Walton School District is expected to grow and the new Emerald Coast Middle School is getting the finishing touches. The change to having 5th graders go to the new school is underway and so far there has been a very positive response, despite earlier opposition.

Walton Superintendent Carlene Anderson says the voluntary 5th grader enrollment at the middle school has at least three classes now and they will exceeded that. Teachers were offered the chance to move from the old school. Anderson says they are thrilled and excited. The Emerald Coast 5th grand at the middle school is voluntary this year and will be mandatory next year. The same program is at Freeport.

Principal Charlie Marello has been opening boxes of desks for the beautiful new Emerald Coast Middle School located on Hwy 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. Mr. Marello says they moved the Administrative and Guidance offices to the new location in June. He says it has been an exciting week with delivery trucks arriving daily with boxes and boxes of student desks, chairs, and technology for the new school. Marello says it feels a little like Christmas!”

Emerald Coast Middle School will proudly open it’s doors on Friday, August 5th at 4:00 p.m. for a Back-to-School Pep Rally and Student Orientation. All students, parents, friends and family are welcome and encouraged to attend. The evening will be kicked-off at 4:00 p.m. in the gymnasium with a Back-to-School Pep Rally and welcome from the new ECMS Principal Charlie Marello. Following the pep rally and welcome, students will receive their class schedule and have the opportunity to visit each classroom, meet their teachers, coaches, and informational booths in the cafeteria. Classes begin for the 2011-12 school year on Monday, August 8th. They encourage you to plan now to attend this event to prepare for school and catch the Stingray Spirit!
