Google to drop property for sale or rent from Google maps

That's right. On Feb 10, 2011, Google will pull those layers from Google Maps. They said the information was costly and not complete, and that there wasn't enough users to justify it. They cited reasons of great real estate websites which already have those features. They did announce that it would be a feature which they may reconsider adding at a time in the future.

Personally, I think the under usage is probably due to Google never advertising that they have the feature. Also, I know of no current site which pulls all rental homes. If anything they should keep the rental feature, IMO.

There is too much misinformation there (as well incomplete info for reasons mentioned by SJ). It is useless if it doesn't meet the correctness and completeness criteria in my opinion.

I imagine it's a giant and costly PITA for Google to keep it updated and current.
