Coastal Branch Library Assistants?
Has anyone been to the library this week? Where have all the library assistants gone?

I have been to the library twice this week. I think people may be on holiday at this time of the year. I so appreciate all the people who work at the library. Financially they are having a hard time. Without a good library you do not have a thriving community.

I know there is a new librarian. The other retired. I also found out this week that our beloved Vera Dale will not be doing story time anymore in South Walton. Apparently she is needed in DeFuniak on Thurs and Fri. I don't know why they didn't just move our time to Wednesday. My kids love her and story time will not be the same without her.

We did lose 3 of our overall library staff to retirement, and another just left us for another opportunity. Two of these losses were at Coastal Branch. We're working to get replacements to keep all four libraries in our county system providing full service. Please bear with us.

I would assume from your interest and responses from this and another thread that you are either one of the ex-librarians or know something and are fishing to see what the general population knows...

See it just takes time to replace people after they retire or move on. Not a money thing, not a conspiracy thing. Now that they are back giving some county employees sizable raises again, they have probably found the dollars to go back to full staffing. Just a matter of time.

Well, the Library Director sent me a copy of an unexpected letter of resignation. In this day and age, I hope that means that the person found a better gig. I haven't heard otherwise from the Library Director or the HR exit interview, so assume that was the case. From conversations I've had in the past with the individual who left I know she wasn't always a happy camper at the Library - but she wasn't fired or encouraged to resign to my knowledge. If there's something that needs to be brought to light, please give me a call at 892-8530.

8K one month, 12K the next, unless my information is wrong, Czar Mattisson is out reevaluating and raising as hard as he can. I guess a single individual can add that much productivity to the equation, I have never seen it happen, but this is a different day. Maybe they can work two computers at the same time.

If someone really looked into what Czar Mattison is doing, you would find it unbelievable that he took an early retirement package (including a cash payout) and is still on the payroll, and that he granted increases of more than 20K annually for some employees while the really hard workers got nothing. All this after the BCC was told during budget hearings that there would be no increases.
