    Mulled Wine

Description: This delicious concoction of fruit and spices makes a perfect drink for the festive period. Served warm it takes the chill out of any wintry evening.
    Serving Size: 4-6
    Time: 35 minutes
    Difficulty: Easy

    Ingredients:
    1. •3 1/8 pt of medium bodied red wine
    2. •3 oranges, one whole the other 2 quartered
    3. •15 cloves
    4. •1 lemon in quarters
    5. •6 tbsp of sugar
    6. •3 inch piece of cinnamon stick
    7. •2 inch piece of ginger, peeled and cut in half
    8. •2 oz sultanas
    9. •1 glass bunch bowl
    10. •1 medium sized saucepan
    11. •1 ladle
    12. •1 spoon
    13. •4 sturdy glasses (which can take heat)
    Preparation:
    1. Take the whole orange and push the cloves into it, sharp end first. Spread them evenly around the orange
    Instructions:
    1. Place into the saucepan the studded orange, orange segments, the lemon quarter, the ginger, cinnamon, sultanas and pour over the wine.

    2. Place the saucepan on a medium heat. Add the sugar to the wine. Give it a good stir with the spoon. Leave the wine to warm to just under a simmer, which is when you should see some bubbles and a bit of steam rising. Stir well again. An important tip: Don't let it boil or the alcohol with evaporate. Allow the flavours to infuse for twenty minutes. After this time remove from the heat.
    3. Using the spoon carefully place all the fruit, the sultanas, ginger and cinnamon into the punch bowl.

    4. Pour the wine into the bowl, onto the fruit. Allow the wine to cool a little before serving.

    5. When ready to serve, ladle the wine into the glass

    Sounds good.

    Two questions:
Are #5/#7 secret steps? Perhaps the point at which one dons an ever festive invisibility cloak and performs abrakadabra woo-woo?

Sultanas are sort of a chi-chi raisin right?

I'll be sure to NOT boil it

We got some mulling spice as a gift one year and tried it, YUM! If you're lazy just use the mulling spice and some wine in a crock pot.

When you write up the recipe and hit submit it numbers it for you, the 5 and 7 are where I left a space I guess.

The sultana (also called the sultanina) is a type of white, seedless grape

Cheap and Red are the only two things about it I can remember. Sorry, this was probably 5-6 years ago, but I don't think it matters what kind of wine you use.
