Carne Guisada
Description: This is a Mexican slow cooked beef dish that kind of makes it's own gravy/sauce. Serve with rice and beans and good flour tortillas for sopping!Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients:- 2-3lbs round steak-I used top sirloin because it was cheaper!
- tsp vegetable oil or a good spray of Pam
- cumin
- chili powder
- small onion
- bell pepper
- jalapeno
- 1 Tbs corn starch
- 1 cup water
- small can tomato sauce or 14 oz can diced tomatoes (I use sauce)
- salt and pepper
Preparation:- cut up meat into 1 inch'ish cubes
- chop onion, bell pepper
- dice jalapeno, I used whole pepper but if you want less heat then don't use seeds and membrane, if you want very mild then omit the pepper
Instructions:- -Brown meat, I used 2 pans to brown the meat so it wasn't crowded
- -Combine meat into a deeper pan and add onion, bell pepper and jalapeno and saute the veggies with meat
- -Add tomato sauce (or diced tomatoes)
- -stir cornstarch into water and then pour into mixture
- -add 6 shakes of cumin and 4 shakes of chili powder, if chili powder is spicy to you then you can lessen it or omit
- -Cover and simmer stirring every few minutes for about 20-30 minutes then cook on low stirring from time to time for 2 hours or throw it into a crock pot on low for probably 3 hours (my plan next time)
- -Serve with white or spanish style rice and tortillas
- 2-3lbs round steak-I used top sirloin because it was cheaper!
