Great Southern...Saturday night
At John R's suggestion, I am trying again to get a sowal together. I failed last time. Great Southern Cafe in Seaside has apparently opened and we think we should try it out on Saturday night. If you are here, willing and able...come on!!! Hey Donna...you in? BR? PM me people and I will call and make a reservation.

Is 8:00 pm late for you? Remember I am older than you! And we leave early early on Sunday for a 13 hour car trip home!

Re: Great Southern...Saturday night
Yes, 8:00 p.m. is perfect for me. The Grayton Homeowners BBQ and street dance begins at 6:00, but I can stop in to say "hello," forego the tube steaks and drop off my desert dish, then go back and dance off the Great Southern calories if anyone asks me. Oops! Forgot that one doesn't need a partner to boogey anymore. Count me in.

We'll be there!
Hey, SJ, I'm not gonna let my sadness over the demise of the old Shades keep me away from this party! BTW we didn't go to the new Shades tonight like we did last Friday night - band night - too noisy after a long day (husband flew in this AM, we both worked until 4 EDT, then drove down).

Re: Great Southern...Saturday night
I could be there. But I heard that it wasn't good and to wait a few weeks to let them settle in. Seems fair.
A more tried and true venue might be a better idea.

We will all remember that the kinks are being worked out. And if they are still around in October, I will go again!!! We will be having too much funn to worry about being critics!!!

Re: Great Southern...Saturday night
I called to see if everyone was enjoying themselves, and the phone was passed around the table--how funn was that? I got to "meet" Miss Kitty, Mr. Kitty and Donna, as well as talking to JohnR and steeleing1. Miss Kitty was kind enough to be drinking a green drink in my honor. She truly is a giving, selfless friend.

Re: Great Southern...Saturday night
We really enjoyed meeting everyone - Mr. Kitty (I had already met Mrs. Kitty), Donna, John R., InletBeachDweller, Steele Mama, steeling 1 and 4, Cork and her parents, Seagrover (I think that's all).

Sueshore really did have a green drink -- she is a trip! :). And the phone really did get passed around - hilarious. I wish more of you could have been there. I think everyone had FUNN.

Re: Great Southern...Saturday night
sorry for the late post, been running all day. great dinner last night, good to meet some more sowallers and say bone voyagee to ms.k. a large group had a large time at a large table on the large deck, which is way large on casual atmosphere. in attendance were self, m/m kitty, m/m br, donna and nephew brian, ibd and friend(cocktails only inside), cork on the ocean and parents, seagrover(in an awesome batik(?) dress with cocktails on it), steele mama, steeling 4, steeling dad, m/m steeling1. lots of stories, food, and bs were shared by all. hopefully they'll let us come back. our server was quite attentive and split the checks without a flinch. our food was delivered without error, and quite good. it was my second time there.
i/we had the olives, chicken jets, and oyster po'boy. olives - (a huge portion in mason jar w/two slices of bread), cool presentation, but not enough bread for the amount of olives. i'm sure more would have been brought readily if i asked.
volcano chicken jets - just enough and quite tasty
po'boy - couldn't eat it as a sandwich since i had so much other stuff. the oysters were fried to perfection and served with an incredible housemade remoulade on the side. i dipped, then used the leftover bread for more olives.
ms. kitty had the tomato/corn salad which was huge and tasted great. donna had it too(i think), and both were exclaiming on the tastiness of the tomatos. ms. kitty also had some kind of greentini going on.
seagrover has an awesome drink recipe which when she copyrights© it, will be happy to share.
there is linen on the tables inside, as well as a different menu with some shared items, but have no fear about letting it all hang out on the deck.
current menu is limited and will change daily with seasonal specialties.

Re: Great Southern...Saturday night
John R., thanks for the photos and the restaurant review! Like I said, I was enjoying meeting everyone too much to focus on the food. Not to mention that it was so dark, I really couldn't see what I was eating.
I agree with your review of the food. The tomato dish was delicious, as were my grits. The waitress did a great job because we were a difficult group to wait on since we were talking so much that we weren't ready to order, yet she was patient with us. Only one slight negative - not noticing that everything is a la carte, my husband ordered the Gulf shrimp entree ($20), and literally all he got were shrimp. Next time we'll read the menu.

You are so flippin fancy.
