Special Snapper Season Kicks Off At Grayton Beach

As you may know, the 2010 Snapper Season will reopen in the Gulf on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting Friday, October 1 through Sunday, November 21.

This is an effort by the Feds and the State of Florida to make up for the shortest Federally-imposed Snapper Season ever – 45 days – that was shortened even more by the oil spill. The reopened season is an effort to bring fishermen and visitors back to the beaches this fall.

The Grayton mosquito fleet will be launching this Friday in search of the "endangered" red snapper. In reality, it is difficult to catch anything but snapper on our local reefs because of their increased numbers. The red snapper are everywhere.

Oh Yeah! My prediction - if I may be so bold, and I MAY - is that I or my sister, Liquorqueen, will catch the biggest snapper! We're going with our favorite captain, Edmond Alexander, and we will do everything he says (well... almost...as long as it involves fishing ) and follow all of his instructions!

    Let the trash talk begin.....

An excellent time was had by all at the Opening Day of the Oct./Nov. Red Snapper season! While I was definitely "talkin' the smack" about catching the biggest fish, it wasn't in the stars for me that day.

Even so, we caught some amazingly huge fish and had a fabulous time out on the Gulf! Thanks to Captain Edmond Alexander for coordinating the Tournament and for taking this fisherwoman and her husband and sister out for the day.

We've been eating snapper for breakfast and supper and living the dream

Check out the great story on the Home page of Sowal.com and look at the wonderful photos that Kurt took to memorialize the event! Just gorgeous!

    Thanks Kurt!

Special Red Snapper Season Opens At Grayton Beach

Calm seas, perfect skies and clear water made for a successful reopening of the 2010 red snapper season on Friday, as local fishing boat captains and their lucky crews launched from Grayton beach shortly after sunrise.

A few hours later, happy anglers returned with their catch in hopes of claiming cash prizes. (photo gallery)
