The Power of SoWal Women! New Playground @ Helen McCall Park
Thought I’d follow up on a thread that started about 3.5 years ago! http://www.sowal.com/bb/local-govern...ark-sowal.html After a lot of work, meetings, and prompting, the Mission Playpark Group is happy to report that a lot of new playground equipment has been installed at Helen McCall Park. Thanks to a group of wonderful women that hung in there over the last 3 years, County Commissioner Meadows, County Commissioner Jones and her assistant Jason, and Parks and Recreation - the kids now have a substantial playground in South Walton, and it all started on Sowal.com! My understanding is that there is more work to do and that they will be adding a pavilion for picnicking and restrooms.
Since most of the photos I took are too big to upload, the playground includes a playset for the older kids (shown in photo), a small playset with shade for the toddlers, a couple of teeter totters, lots of swings, a spider web to climb on, a tire swing, a round hanging swing, a tether ball pole, benches and picnic benches. I'll try to add more photos later.
Who wants to work on getting a public pool in SoWal?!!!!!

HooRay! Lots of hard work, long meetings, and tenacity went into this great project. Thanks to everyone! I remember those first Sowal conversations..
Is it open yet? My grandkiddos are very excited about going there.
I love good news and community spirit

Can't wait to go there this week! I hope it's officially open - we will get there early in the am to avoid the heat, and take pictures too. Thanks for posting - mostly THANK YOU to the ladies who were able & willing to make this dream a reality!!

The official grand opening hasn't happened yet, but the playground looks open for use. It was very hot and sunny when I was there a few days ago, but they did keep as many trees as they could and there is a sunshade over the toddlers' playset.

I took my girls a week ago Friday. It was very wet because it had rained for a week. There is white sand around the spider web climb and i sunk to my knees in it.....like quicksand. Be careful with little ones. Standing water in a lot of places (like right where i had to stand to push the swings. lol) but the equipment is all functional and fun! We stayed for almost 2 hours. There are some benches in the shade. I didn't see any tables yet. The restrooms will be a great addition! I'm so proud of everyone that got this done for our kids. Thank you so much!
