Destin Commons expansion to begin with parking garage

Destin Commons boasts an expanse of retail stores.
And this year the retail outlet hopes to begin expanding its breadth. Construction on a retail expansion will start after construction on a new parking garage begins late this summer.
The expansion will include and additional 135,000 square feet of retail space, 70,000 square feet of office space, a 150-suite condominium hotel, and about 430 underground parking spaces.
Mary Kathryn Wells, marketing director for Destin Commons, said the parking garage would
take about a year to complete, and then construction on the expansion would begin.
”It all depends on the economy and the weather,” she said.
Destin Commons opened in November 2003 and has 400,000 square feet of retail and 70,000 square feet of office space. Turnberry Associates, of South Florida, and Legendary Inc., of Destin, own the property.
The new retail space will be built adjacent to Destin Commons’ lifestyle center and will include landscaping and other family-friendly elements.
