Remember that as of this year, you need a license to fish. You can get one at Walmart.

Or better yet you can get one with a few clicks - FWC - Licenses & Permits

Caught a 35" Amber Jack week and a half ago in the surf near Stinky's. Pompano are out there. I'll report back with photos after this weekend.

I'll probably be right across the road from Stinky's Friday AM looking for Pompano. I need to find that photo of the AJ and get it posted here.

Alas, I must correct myself. I had shown the photo to a friend who fishes the keys often and he called the fish a Horse Jack or Horse Eye Jack...something like that.
I searched further just now and the fish I have I believe is a Crevalle Jack and not an Amber Jack. When I first researched this fish as I'd never caught one before, I was looking through black and white details and got it wrong.
It was still a cool fish and foght like crazy. I had to chase it along the surf several hundred yards to keep from getting spooled. 16 pound fish on 12 pound test was fun.

Thanks for the reminder on licenses. Yes, Walmart sells licenses. Of course I recommend that everyone get their licenses at Yelllowfin. What the heck, it's locally owned, been around since 1999, and just a visit to the store will provide a wide variety of Pompano fishing tips. Live bait, frozen bait, all kinds of tackle, and the famous Pompano Floats, available only at Yellowfin.

Thats awesome! That was actually the first fish I caught on my boat a few years ago along the grass flats by crab island. They do fight like crazy! What kind of test are you using out there? I think its about time to get my feet wet when the swells go down
