Close the Gaetz -- Jan Fernald for Florida House District 4
Support for Matt Gaetz' opponent in next Tuesday's special election to replace Ray Sansom, Jan Fernald, is surging. Jan's opposition to near shore drilling, as well as her early and vocal opposition to SB6 (the deprofessionalization of teachers bill) has helped her gain traction.
NWF Daily News Editorial is a good breakdown of the issue--
EDITORIAL: Mr. Gaetz, Ms. Fernald and SB 6 | problem, editorial, fernald - Opinion - Northwest Florida Daily News
Jan is the underdog in the race, with a huge fundraising disadvantage to say the least -- Matt Gaetz' long standing connections to Tallahassee allowed him to raise almost half a million dollars. Still, a crowd of people (many of them teachers) spent the evening making handmade signs that say, "Close the Gaetz -- Vote JAN!" You can't buy passion.

IMO one Gaetz is one too many--!
A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.

Any chance Craig Barker will still run? I know the potential is there to split the vote and benefit Fernald, but I wouldn't be able to vote for either one of the current candidates. (Doesn't really matter what I think, though, because I can't vote in the election anyway.)

Craig Barker is still on the ballot for the fall non-special election, AFAIK.

Unfortunately Craig Barker's major backers aren't in his district.
