The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites you to attend a Public Information meeting regarding planned improvements to State Road 30 (US Highway 98) from County Road 2378 (near the Silver Sands outlet mall) to Baytowne Lane in Walton County. The project length is approximately 1.5 miles.
This meeting is being held to notify local governments, affected property owners, tenants, and the public of the transportation improvement project scheduled to begin in March 2010.
The project includes milling and resurfacing U.S. 98 between the pavement change at County Road 2378 and Baytowne Lane. Construction crews will also repair sidewalks, improve drainage, and upgrade pedestrian handrails.

Scheduled to begin around March first and supposed to last for about 140 days. Yikes! Never an easy process at any time of the year. As most of us know, 98 in Sandestin is always very busy during the Summer.
Lane closures are scheduled for nighttime only. www.myus98.com will have updates - to be live soon. Thanks to Mike Sasser for all the info.

And what exactly is wrong with the road, or the sidewalks, and what the heck is a pedestrian handrail?

Didn't they just redo that road?
Think it is just a giant plot to herd us towards PC. Can't go north, can't go west, won't make it real far heading south.

Considering some of the other roads in the area that desperately need resurfacing they chose the one that was just done a few years ago? Is this like rolling out the red carpet for Wal-Mart?
SSB, usually the pedestrian handrail is a waist high "fence" between the sidewalk and the road as a safety measure.

Why would they do it then when we are going to have Spring Break drivers attempting to fly up and down 98? Wish they would have started it this winter.

I was just driving that section of road the other day while thinking that it was desperately going to need resurfacing soon. There are some nasty potholes and sunken areas especially near the light at Sandestin Blvd. I am shocked to hear of the bad timing though... seriously? March? 140 days? Are they just trying to find ways to torture us? Why not Nov-Feb??

Just a pet peeve of mine - but the road that is being resurfaced is in MIRAMAR BEACH. I wish people could get the area correct... Sandestin is a RESORT not a town.
and there are areas that need help, but the whole thing? Insane!
