That's great, but the Sheriff might want to consider a fan page. Normal pages are restricted to 5,000 members and I'm pretty sure there are more than 5,000 people in Walton County on Facebook.

Having said that kudos for adding to the various communications methods.

Still wish they would post the news releases on Sowal...if he can Facebook, then........

Okay let me rephrase. The cap is 5,000, there are quite a few people that would join outside of Walton County just to keep up with the area. I'm just pointing out that there is a limit to a page and that the fan pages are unlimited.

    It is a "business page".

While I love SoWal, I don't consider it a primary source of general news information. Its great for updates and commentary, but honestly, these forums would be pretty boring if all we got was press releases or threads that simply linked to a television station/newspaper site for a story.

I also believe that you can get news releases directly from the WCSO website.

With regard to the use of Facebook, SoWal, or anyother online forum for news releases, I find it refreshing that Walton County (at least a part of its government) has gotten progressive. Robert can certainly tell us about how it wasn't too many years ago that the internet as a communication medium between citizens and government was simply unheard of here.

I consider Sowal the best, and often the only source of "as it is happening news" such as a traffic crash, a water emergency, closed roads, clogged roads, etc.

If the SO would post those kinds of things, I think it would be a huge service to the community. It's great there is a Sheriff Facebook page, and I think it would be even greater if there was a Sowal Community News Information page from him as well.

That is true, but many of them don't want the Sheriff to know where they are and what they are up to.

And it would be great if the Sheriff would personally deliver all of that information directly to me. But not cost effective. With todays technology, if they are providing it at the major sources, get a rss feed reader going on your phone or computer and it will pull the latest information to you as it happens without incurring additional costs by the taxpayers. If you want it here, tell Kurt and let him make it happen.
