The Disco is Dead mechanic recommendation?

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we own a Land Rover Discovery. Sunday the U joint broke. It is currently sitting at Twin Cities Transmission as that was the closest place to tow it to.
Does anyone know anything about this shop? Right now they are saying damaged tranny, estimated repair $3200
Anyone know a good trustworthy mechanic that we can get another opinion from?
    Quit whining and RUN!!

i feel your pain. been there done that. good luck. wish you could use my mechanic in chattanooga, he's an absolute saint.

talk to your mechanic (when you find one) and ask him if you personally can buy the parts. check http://www.roverparts.com/ it's possible they may have what you need. (?)

I am not a mechanic but that sounds odd. I would call around a nd see what another mechanic may say.

Tow it to a Ford Dealership, I hear they are giving top dollar for clunkers as a trade in.

Wish you were here, my sons own Ranco Transmissions (3rd generation).
I don't think buying your own parts is the way to go. A second opinon is a good idea. You will be paying for more towing, but it'll make you feel better probably.
