Funny, I already talk to my animals. Sweet Pea has quite a vast vocabulary. Cowboy does as well, but many times, he chooses to ignore me.

At one point I was semi-fluent in Spanish and Italian, could converse in French and German, and knew a couple random phrases in other languages (like "your fly is open" in Latin).

These days just being correct with my American English seems to be a challenge.

Can I choose the "universal translator" option or the "Dr. Dolittle" option?

It is the language of happy people. Your sort seems to be grumpy, out of sorts, and angry all the time, focusing only on the negative. Come join the happy people and learn to smile and be full of joy and peace.

French because I am a complete and hopeless Francophile. I wish I could it speak it with perfect fluency, which I don't think I shall ever accomplish no matter how hard I try.

Absolutely! "just say no--to everything" is getting tiresome! Eat more ice cream cones! It's hard to be grumpy and negative with chocolate dripping!

Nut. Though that would be the language to learn, it seems. Like learning to speak "teenage boy," which seems to be an assortment of grunts, sighs and loud laughter.

Definitely Italian, followed closely by French, in preparation for my future travels. Though I'd get a kick out of seeing people's faces if suddenly broke into Mandarin.

Mandarin, totally. It frustrates me not having the slightest idea what those characters are. So I'd have to be able to speak it and read it ...

I'd like, after 12 years of marriage, to be able to speak and understand Mr. DD language.
