SoWal Makes Front Page News - Again

SoWal made the front page of the Northwest Florida Daily News today ( 5-17-09) -- second time this month, I believe. The story is actually a bit more positive than the top of the page banner headline which actually uses "SoWal". Check it out and see comments from fellow SoWallers. You can see this online, but try to see the printed version if you can. This story is about Real Estate and uses Haas Center research and mentions topics we're all familiar with. South Walton has earned good media reports lately from South Walton High School and Emerald Coast Middle School. The students certainly are helping put South Walton on the map! Lots of good reports for South Walton. Always interesting to see how the Panama City or NWFL dailies cover Walton County.

The sign references a lot close to one owned by Lane Betz of Madison, Ala. She said she and her husband purchased the lot in 2005 as an investment, but when it didn't sell they decided to build a house there. Construction was completed last February and they're still waiting for a buyer.

She said the developer "cut his price so low on his lot that it brought down all the prices in the neighborhood."

"People are just uninterested now," said Betz, who added that "they want something for nothing" and the lot is priced for a less than what she and her husband paid for it.

It's the buyers fault.

We in SoWal do need to communicate more with our Bay County friends. Same story, same reporter in the Panama City News Herald. However, their story carried a "DeFuniak" dateline!! A little SoWal outreach and connection to Bay County and its headline writers and editorial staff might be in order. We have an issue with Channel 7, NBC TV station in Panama City Beach, too. Their promo for Walton County isn't quite right. I almost avoid watching their news just so I don't have to cringe through their Walton County promo. You'd think with some of the South Walton advertising, they'd mention SoWal or South Walton more. Must be something else going on. I watch many stations and try to read a variety of our local newspapers, hard copy and online. Happen to be watching ABC 13, Panama City right now. I do like the news crews for both stations.

"Bobby Jones" that works with Beach Properties of Florida. That is crazy. I work for BPOF and have never met this guy! What a coincidence?

it is pretty amazing that they make the mistakes they do...how far back did they have to look to find that pix of Alys Beach...it must be months old. And, why put a pix of Alys Beach in the part of the story talking about the abandonment of NatureWalk? Makes me nuts when reporters don't check their details.

The man who does the Arts report on the radio over in PC can not pronounce either Alys Beach or Choctawhatchee Bay!

DL, maybe there should be a class called:

Introduction and Orientation to Walton County: A Guide to Places, Names, and People: Help with Identification, Location, and Pronunciation (and spelling).
Mandatory for all News People, Public Officials, and Visitors!

Of course, Bobby Jones might not want anything cleared up!
Look at all the free publicity he's getting.
