Nice. What a beautiful set of pix. Makes you realize what a beautiful country we really have from east to west and north to south.

So true. We are going out to Park City in Feb. I really want to spend some time out west this year in the spring or summer. I just looks so cool.

This is a great country! I am most excited to go to see the Hoover Dam. I have never been to Las Vegas and now that MS is 21, we are thinking about taking a quick trip for Spring Break. For some reason, I have always been fascinated about the dam.

Glen Canyon was not always a canyon. The river created the Canyon, slowly eroding it over many, many years. Now that they built the damn dam, it is a lake and not a canyon. It is pretty though. I have spent some time sleeping right beside the water's edge.

We have seen Hoover Dam twice - it's just an amazing man-made wonder. You should definitely go. It makes a great day trip from Vegas .

Miss Kitty, you will love the trip! I just went last spring and had a great time! Didn't go out to the dam, but just flying over it was awesome! I went with two friends who were die hard gamblers and shoppers, not much on sightseeing- Will definitely go back!

Sueshore you are in for a treat - The Dam Hoover Dam is Dam amazing. Dam big. But...I must confess I am much like DestinDreamin's friends and have to be dragged out of the Casinos. I love it. I am sooooo luck there are no Casinos near me - I would probably end up in Gamblers Anonymous
My husband and daughter always plan out the "other" activities but they are always funn! Have a Dam great trip!

Be sure to go on the Dam Tour and see the Dam doors and the Dam gadgets. For a real treat, watch Clark and the other Griswald's go on the Dam tour. I forget which movie that was, maybe the Wallyworld movie? She's a real beaut, Clark.

Joe, that's a great pic of your tent at the lake, and being an opponent of dams, i must post some other links and pics. from the Zephyr in Moab, http://www.canyoncountryzephyr.com/s...lakepowell.htm

    http://www2.kenyon.edu/Projects/Dams/glen.html

    http://www.ecohike.com/images.htm

    http://rosebud.moenkopi.net/pics/uta...l/powell6.html

while i agree that the dams are quite the architectural feat, the environmental impacts are horrendous. and, for the record, i've been in lake powell.

The DAM movie was "Vegas Vacation". My husband says I am just like Clark Griswald. He and little sunbum have to drag me out of the casino to eat and I eat very quickly and they eat sooooooo slow. I always have to go to the bathroom before they finish and of course on the was back from the BR I seem to become like a magnet at some random slot machine and by the time I get back to them, they have finished lunch, had dessert, paid the tab and are waiting for me. They don't get mad at me - it has really become a real joke because when I say "excuse me for moment" they know exactly what is going to happen.

Another great movie set in the Hoover Dam area is "Lost in America," with Albert Brooks and Julie Hagerty. This is one of the funniest movies we've ever seen. It's the story of a couple of L.A. yuppies who quit their up-scale jobs, sell their home, and hit the road in an executive motor home, "in search of the real America." One of their first stops is the strip in Las Vegas...you get the picture. Every time I see this movie, I laugh until I cry. Beautiful scenery of the American West, too. Don'tcha just love Albert Brooks?

Yes, I love Albert Brooks! I think my favorite movie of his is "Mother" with Debbie Reynolds. Anyone who's ever had to deal with their aging parents will appreciate that movie.

    (don henley/stan lynch/jai winding/frank simes)

The rains have come early, they say
    We're all gonna wash away
Well, that's all right with me
If heaven's torrent can wash clean
    The arrogance that lies unseen
In the damage done since we have gone
Where we ought not to be
    Goodbye to a river
    Goodbye to a river
    So long

Lakes and levees, dams and locks
They put that river in a box
    It was running wild
    And men must have control
We live our lives in starts and fits
We lose our wonder bit by bit
We condescend and in the end
    We lose our very souls
    Goodbye to a river
    Goodbye to a river
    So long

    The dirty water washes down
    Poisoning the common ground
Taking sins of farm and town
    And bearing them away
    The captains of industry
And their tools on the hill
    They're killing everything divine
What will i tell this child of mine

    (solo)
I make a church out of words
As the years dull my senses
And i try to hold on to the world that i knew
I struggle to cross generational fences
And the beauty that still remains¡º
I can touch it through you
    Goodbye to a river
    Goodbye to a river
    So long

    Goodbye to a river
    Goodbye to a river
    So long

    Goodbye to a river
    Goodbye to a river
    So long

    Goodbye to a river
    Goodbye to a river
