top places to see in SoWal

Of course I gravitate to the beach, but reading this site has made me want to explore the area. If a person is visiting for a long weekend, what would be the must see nature areas? Eden Gardens looks lovely, the cypress swamps.....what else have I missed by being a beach bum? I won't give up sunsets on the beach, so give suggestions of places that you believe to be the best and where they are located to explore during the day.

Deer Park is spectacular if you like the rolling white sand dunes and expansive views.

Biking around Watercolor is also great as it can be quiet and one can take less traveled trails.

If you really want to take a day off the beach, but remain close to nature, Rent a canoe, (or know someone who has one ) and put in where Hwy 98 intersects Peach Creek and paddle up stream to Eden Gardens, the take the easy ride back down Peach Creek to Hwy 98. You will need to take your vinegar spray if the bugs are out. You will have more funn than you can shake a stick at.

Go hiking in the state parks. Here's an easy one. From WaterColor, walk west toward Western Lake and on the north side of the road you'll see the entrance to the trail. Start hiking.

i believe it to be a JT microphone (or a rip-off of the same degign), most probably a wired (plug's on the bottom) unidirectional condenser for spoken word?

Is this because they do not make a "JR" microphone?

it's a Neumann KM-84i cardioid microphone. manufactured on 10/16/85. i am one of a few owners, i'm sure. i typically use them outdoors where i'm around 50-60 ' from the stage. or not, they were the microphone used to record Dread Clampitt's second album up at Funky Blues Shack. one of the first microphones produced that used 48v phantom power. they are quite warm sounding, and will probably never be owned by anyone else(i hope). even though they were sold as a matched stereo pair, someting happened somwhere along the line, and there is around 3-4db difference between them, so i need to send them in for recalibration. they have been used to tape most of my shows here.

not mine joe. i have never taped DC in the red bar. that was probably joey morrisette's(not sure if he has mics yet, he usually patches from me) or paul's, he tapes onto a minidisc.

you would have only see these at 331 attached to the sprinkler pipes either in the triangle back when or at the new stage area for the big ol electric dread a few months back. typically covered with windscreens due to air movement from the fans.

Paul was standing next to them beside the door, so it would be a good guess that they belong to him.

How long does the trip take? Is spring a good time to canoe Peach Creek? Where is this located on 98? Sounds like a fine way to see the natural side of sowal.

Peach creek intersects Hwy 98 about 1-2 miles east of Hwy 395. Park on the north side of the road and you will see the access to put in a canoe.

Time depends on how much you want to look. For travel time alone on a good day, allow 4 hours. Longer if you want to get out and walk around at Eden. I would pack a lunch and go in the morning. It can be a good workout or a fairly relaxing time, you get to decide. The good news is that you go with the current for the ride back.

Most anytime of the year is a good time to explore Peach Creek. Spring is fantastic.

As a gentle reminder to all, pack out all of your garbage, and search for someone else's trash to take out with you. Thanks. This is a pristine area and it should remain that way.
