Tiger Woods is on my youknowhatlist

According to the Orlando Sentinel, 129,000 gallons of water goes down the drain on Tiger's Florida estate every month. Average water usage is 10,000 gallons a month.

The home is on Jupiter Island near Palm Beach, considered the wealthiest community in the country. Several of his fellow Floridians also do it. NBA star Grant Hill used 263,000 gallons in May. The Magic's Dwight Howard's estate soaked up 189,000 gallons in July alone.

According to records, Woods is near the top of the 25 biggest guzzlers in Orange County, Florida. Number 25 on the list averages 84,000 gallons a month.

Note to Tiger -- Central Florida is in a water crisis.

This makes me very sad....and angry. I don't care if he can afford it.

If they are using too much water, then obviously the water authority is not charging enough. They ought to start doubling the amount for water at some number, say 50K gallons, and then double the rate for every 10K gallons over that. If these people want to use a ridiculous amount of water, then they can fund innovation to provide the water they need.

I imagine it is mostly water used to water lawns.

Grayt idea. Now, how do we get that to happen?

I imagine that is something that the people who set the water rates will have to handle.

He needs one. My neighbor at Watersound put in a well for landscaping, it will pay for itself in a few years of those big waterbills. Makes me wonder....how bad is it for our water supply to use well water? What does it do to the environment and water tables?

So why is this not done nationwide? I know of people in Atlanta that kept getting fines and just kept paying them just to keep up their big expensive lawns.

I have no idea. This has been discussed in central and south florida for years. Instead it seems government wants to pass rules about what sort of plants we can use at our homes. And when we can water. I just do not see why we do not charge more for water. I know DeFuniak raised their water rates for businesses substantially and I immediately went out and made some changes to my business to use less water. And when water rates go up here, you do feel it because they charge double for sewer.

They did until the paper called them out public outcry became great enough to make them stop. There are quite a few upscale homes I have seen that have signs stating that landscaping water is coming from wells...

If I remember correctly, quite a bit of the landscaping water in Sarasota is coming from reclaimed treated water. The expense of course is having to run dual pipes throughout the city to supply the water.

I have a well at my house. I get my water from the same place that most of the people in sowal get their water because I have a deep well. Now if they are using a shallow well to landscape I am thinking that they are using filtered groundwater.

I have been looking at these water reclamation systems, but so far, I have just avoided watering things. I figure if God wants them to live, he will provide the rain. That system seems to have worked quite well before I got here.

Think about all the water golf courses waste watering the greens. If you live in a golf community, you use excess water whether it is billed to you directly or the association/community pays for it. Example; Sandestin

But if they have ponds that collect rainwater and use pumps to disperse that water, is it a waste, or just simply a redistribution? I realize if it is redistribution it certainly will garner a lot of support among this group.

Are there any golf courses in our area that do this?

I will call Camp Creek tomorrow and ask them. I'm not sure what Watersound does, but I'm gonna call and ask. I know we have a holding pond in the gated part of Watersound but I'm not sure what it is used for, I will call Jim tomorrow and ask. We all have to be accountable.

I would wager that most golf courses are on well water. My main reason for saying this is the presence of huge amount of rust stains deposited by the iron in the water.

Of course, that's just a hypothesis...

SMALL WORLD STORY OF THE DAY:

His housesitter's best friend's parents are some of my great friends, and they're also big skiers on Lake Lanier/mudpuddle. I just happen to be going over there for dinner. I'm going to raise a stink about this.

p.s. NoHall is aggravated story of the day: I don't care if they're on well water if there is a water crisis. Wasting water is wasting water, and we're having a drought, and my well just went dry.

I will bet it all that he has St. Augustine grass, and it is watered once or twice a day on timers bypassed from rain sensors. The city does the same thing here, only much of the roads are also doused.

There is SO much water wasted everywhere!

I think part of Tiger's high bill is golf course/green watering, but the amount of water you see wasted daily on 30-A is ridonkulous.

I vote we get rid of all the automatic irrigation systems!

I have my smart a$$ question all ready to go for the HOA meeting (and pics!)...

Why are we watering during a hurricane?

At Camp Creek, the water comes in from Destin Waste Utilities, and is recycled water. Even when we wash off all equipment, we use recycled water. Go Packers!!

Good to know! I have a call in to the powers that be to find out about the holding pond at Watersound. Thanks for letting us know about Camp Creek. What exactly is recycled water?

Is that what the giant retaining pond is behind the course?

i think this may be relevant, i believe Tiger's estate on Hobe Sound is 10 acres, so that's alittle more grass than your average yard, no?

True, but you could do natural vegetation as opposed to a private golf course and not need to water anything.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't care about water usage as he's currently designing a golf course for a development in Dubai (Sanscrit for desert, just sarcasm).
