I'm a rebel and my husband is a yankee, just as I suspected.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
Ten years of living in the South have done me in! My East Coast parents would cringe: I'm only 48% Yankee now. barely Yankeeeeeee!

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
That was too funny...it says I'm 44% (Yankee). Barely in the Yankee category. ( That's because I'm a southerner at heart.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
Wow, that was fascinating. I am 40% Yankee. "Definitely Yankee."
I remember when I moved to New York from California (at age 8) "youse" and "soda" were not in my vocabulary. Yet.
Then we moved to Colorado and it changed all over again.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
You know RO, I thought I would also. However, I have lived all over the place, including overseas for about 3 years, and I think some of the yankee rubbed off on me. I am still trying to shake the yankee in me.

I am confused about that myself! I think this test may not be right!

The rolling of houses and yards must definately be Southern lingo. I finally quit saying "rolling" up here in the north when everyone kept saying, "Ohhhh, you mean t.p.-ing a yard." Whatever!!

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
We have English Ivy taken from the Lee-Custis house in Arlington National Cemetery covering half our back yard, so my answers are voided automatically to rebel.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
68% Dixie Just under the mason dixon line. I 'm going to try this out on my Southern family and see if they really qualify as Dixie folks.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
Funn one RO!
49% yankee (but there were some I could have had 2 answers for because we've lived so many places, we've picked up different sayings.) Never heard of "Rolling" until this year when I took the kids to TP a friend's house. They had me a bit concerned that someone was going to get hurt --
rolled.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
Actually I would have scored higher if they had given a choice of the pronunciation of “aunt” as “ain’t,” for example. And there was no choice of “Co-Cola” as the carbonated beverage we Southerners like to drink. This questionnaire was obviously written by a Yankee.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
100% Yankee (born and raised in Massachusetts) with immigrant Polish and Italian roots (is that still Yankee?). But as soon as I stop wearing socks with my sandals in the winter when in SoWal I'll consider myself at least 25% rebel...

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
Yeah, my husband never goes barefoot; he puts on his shoes as soon as he gets out of bed, regardless of the season - he's a true Yankee. I despise wearing shoes, and only wear them in the house if we have guests, so I totally can't relate to socks with sandals. When my daughter was at MIT, she wore flip-flops even in below-zero weather; YAY, I RAISED HER AS A TRUE SOUTHERN GIRL!

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
barely Yankee (49%), tho I was born in Vermont. Guess that all those years in Birmingham helped convert me. (Tho I must be one of the few here who grew up knowing about "cabbage night"--a real Vermont expression --my sister's birthday is on "cabbage night" and it was horrible for her growing up) My husband (39%--a "real Yankee" ) grew up in Boston, but he learned a few things in Bham. Funny thing is my colleagues at my college think of me as "very southern". I take that as a matter of pride.

Re: Are You A Rebel Or A Yankee?
Our daughters probably are southerners, then. We live in Michigan and they're still wearing their flip flops on some days...

You are so right about the barefoot/filp flop thing. I never wear shoes in the house either. I don't even like to wear socks - - I have to have totally "bare" feet. My husband (Yankee) ALWAYS has socks on, even in th summer. So weird to me. And I, too, push the sandles thing in my attire for as long as possible. When it's snowing out, then I change to closed toed shoes! My co-workers laugh at me!

The night before Halloween--people raid gardens (cabbage grows well in Vermont)--and throw cabbage, pumpkins and other garden refuse at passing cars and homes. [not a lot to do in Vermont, obviously!]
