Recipes to cook with kids
Jackson's (he's 5) spending the weekend and I am going to introduce him to cooking. Any good recipes that he could help cook?

DD, I kid you not, teach Jackson how to crack and egg and you give him the foundation for more cooking than he could shake a stick at.

A few years ago Sam was really into the food network. For a while I thought she was going to be a chef. That Christmas I bought her Rachel Ray's cookbook for kids. I think she has a few out now. I'm sure any of them would be good. Here's a link to a few of her kid friendly recipes.

When my son was about 5 we used to cook "Porcupine Meatballs." He thought it was fun to mix the uncooked rice with the raw ground beef and form the meatballs. Still to this day, he loves this easy meal.
It's a Rice-a-Roni recipe so if you're concerned about chemicals and additives, then you should use regular rice and chicken broth (to boost flavor) and chose seasonings of your choice.
PORCUPINE MEATBALLS
1 lb. ground beef
1 egg, beaten
1 box Rice-A-Roni, beef or chicken flavor (low sodium)
2 tbsp. butter (or olive oil)
2 c. hot water (or chicken broth)
Combine ground beef, egg, and rice-vermicelli mix. Shape into small meatballs (approximately 20). Brown on all sides in butter or olive oil, in skillet. Combine contents of seasoning packet with hot water or chicken broth. Pour over meatballs. Cover and simmer until done - about 30 minutes. Other seasonings may be added to meatballs.
(I thicken this with some corn starch so it's not the consisitency of soup but more of a gravy thickness.)
Scrambling eggs for breakfast is always fun for kids too.
Have a fun Mother's Day!

DD, my daughter and my nephews have always loved making cookies. On her fifth birthday (maybe 6th, don't remember), her birthday party activity was cookie decorating (I made the cookies in advance). The kids had a blast, they made a mess, but it was worth it.
Just use any simple sugar cookie recipe (or gingerbread at Christmas), let Jackson help roll out the dough, and get a variety of cookie cutters so he can make the shapes he likes. Buy sprinkles and several colors of icing in those cans with a variety tips so that designs can be drawn on them as well.

I love this idea. I can't wait to have someone besides me in the kitchen with FBB!

On the pizza theme, when our kids were little we used english muffins as a crust and let them pick their own toppings. Also made a fruit pizza. Used a pre-made sugar cookie dough and spread it a pizza pan and baked it first. Then spread a cream cheese, confectioner sugar, sauce on top and let them top it with their favorite fresh fruit on top.

"The Fun of Cooking" by Jill Krementz. It's a cookbook for kids - 19 different kids of all ages share their favorite recipes and there are lots of fun pictures. Don't know if it's still in print or has been updated (my copy was a 1986 Xmas present).
I only made a couple recipes, but read the book many times - the favorite was teddy bear bread - you made loafs of bread shaped like teddy bears w/ raisins for eyes!

Ok..tonight we made the mini pizzas. Jackson wanted pepperoni, but they were out at the store. Has it been recalled or something? Anyway, he just had cheese pizza and I doctored up mine and mr. dd's a little with veggies. They were pretty tasty. I let Jackson put the sauce and cheese on. He ate every bite.
