Daisy's Garden Shop
What I love about SoWal is that we all support local businesses. I had the opportunity to work with the owners of Daisy's this weekend, and I was so impressed with these gentlemen. If you are planting your garden now (as you should be), these guys will be a tremendous help to you, and you will truly take pleasure in meeting them. Their shop is located on 84 Veterans Road in Santa Rosa Beach.
Tom Sloyan and Roger Bates (owners of Daisy's) donated over $450 of plants and materials, plus their expertise to our neighborhood beautification project. I am working on a newsletter for the HOA and will post it on this thread, as they deserve a marketing push!
It was a very generous thing to do, and we really appreciate their help!
Their number is 200.5571!

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
Yippee! Thanks for playing.
I hope these guys get a lot of new business from SoWal! I just did a new logo for them... I attached it.. of course, they haven't seen it yet... let me know what you think. The white is a lil too white in this version... but I'll fix it...

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
Cool logo!

I vote for a green stem, smaller space between garden and shop, smaller/cuter apostrophe, and either a different color petal or background so the flower pops!
Too bad they didn't let you take a crack at THE beach!

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
Thanks
. I went over there the day of your original post and got: Thyme, salad burnet, oregano, dill, mint, stevia, 2 tomato plants which I will hang in a bucket, tarragon (yummy), parsley (because it makes a nice color contrast -I personally think it is useless for taste.), and a couple of other things that I can't recall now. Very friendly. Thank you for posting of them.

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
Cut a 2in hole or so in the bottom of the bucket and thread the immature plant through it -oh also have a coffee filter covering the hole where the plant is poking through so the dirt won't fall out when added. Add the potting soil as you normally would and hang the bucket by its handle. The plant will grow to the sunshine from the underside and no wiring or added support needed (I hope).

I saw really good pics somewhere the other day. I am not using a lid on mine as I'll thread the plant through the bottom. I may wind up wishing for a lid though if my stuff falls out. I suppose it makes for less lifting while adding the soil. I want a cheeseburger.Haters gonna hate, Ballers gonna ball

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
while i have found these individuals to be very nice, i have had no luck in their followup. last year, they said they could order us a specific bush. they took our phone number, etc. and never called back. a similar situation happened the year before. i was truly disappointed because i liked them alot.

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
The native plant nursery I have worked at here in Texas would have a problem getting people called back in the spring because we would get sooo busy.
Our situation was that when we didn't have something that we sometimes carry or might get in at a future date, we would take the name and # of customer to call them if/when we got it in. I would always tell anyone leaving a "request" to be called to please also follow up themselves and call us back on Thursday afternoons or Fridays after weekly deliveries had come in. Thus between both of us if they were really wanting something, there was a better chance of getting it.
People would actually go shop behind our retail area, in the "stocking" area, and from sections of plants "on hold" for customers or landscape jobs and shop. All the signage in the world will not keep some from doing this.
Please realize for a nursery, especially in the busy season, good intentions may fall through the cracks. Just give them a call back and check. Help them out as I'm sure that is what they would want.

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
Great post. Thank you. People often do not follow up with me, and I do get irritated, but I think you made this argument very logical. I know some of us have digital remidners to follow up with folks, but with this line of business, I imagine Tom and Roger seldom sit in front of a computer---
I think these guys would love another chance. Also, they are not online, so they couldn't defend themselves from a negative post.
I'd judge them by their expertise and willingness to share. Thanks!

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
I said I would post the newsletter when I finished it, so here it is... I wanted to highlight the owners of Daisy's and you can see- I made the changes to the logo that were suggested in an earlier post...
The upside down collage will be folded right side up when mailed.
Also, there is this odd square within the logo when I publish to a pdf (it isn't there otherwise). I'll figure it out...Last edited by Sea Sothebys; 04-01-2008 at 03:10 PM.

Re: Daisy's Garden Shop
It was fun. I see some imperfections after I posted the PDF... isn't it always like that?
I enjoy this stuff more than going to the board meetings or doing just about anything else comcerning being on the board. I guess that is why I did it--- now I can stare at the other members while they do their share...
tee hee...
We have a great neighborhood. A lot of children and really modest home prices. I love all the other communities around here, but this one is sooo affordable. I imagine a lot of people do not even realize it is here...
