Care package for my friend deployed to the Middle East
I just received an email from my friend who is a Navy Reservist -- she is also a property owner and frequent visitor to SoWal. She is deployed to Kuwait for the next six months.
I had asked her what I could send her, fully expecting her to say toiletries, food, sunscreen, snacks, magazines etc., what she said was:
"Please see if you can send us some coffee; I have 50 people working for me in four remote bases and the Navy does not supply any coffee. We are working from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. the next day and it really would be easier with a cup of coffee".
I am putting together as much coffee, cream and sugar as I can and sending it right away. Anyone who would like to send some, please send me a PM. I am also planning to ask some of the coffee places and local stores if they will contribute. When my son was deployed directly after 9-11, they did not have any cold weather gear (In SW Asia), Walmart was wonderful and donated enough blankets for everyone in his team (30 people).
It makes me so angry that we send our troops to war without so many things:
while the body armor is more important than coffee, it seems with all the money we are spending on the war, at least we could afford to buy them a cup of coffee during their 15 hour shifts in the desert.
Thanks to anyone who can help me make life a bit easier for Julie and her team.Last edited by GoodWitch58; 11-23-2007 at 07:33 AM.

Thanks Kurt. I will be happy to pick it up. Everyone has been fantastic. So many Sowallers are sending packages--Julie and the others are eager to get the packages! There are 50 people in the team and most of them from Ft Walton, Pensacola area; some from Tallahassee. They appreciate our efforts so much!

Everyone who has sent packages of coffee: Thank you from the troops in Kuwait. They have received more packages, and are very appreciative. Julie says she will send thank you notes to everyone as soon as she can. They are all safe, although they had a scare a few days ago when there was a very bad accident...not an attack, but traffic accident where some were hurt.
They are working both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so let's remember them out in the desert as we all enjoy our celebrations with our families.
Thanks again for making their days a little better with a cup of coffee.
